ConchCruiser Marine radio net starts this week

Post by Luke »

Hamin' X, and other radio operators:
Several of us MacGregor sailors are going to use our boats' radios to stay in touch the next two weeks.
We call ouselves "The Conch Cruisers".
I will be on SV Jolie Spot sailing around The Dominican Republic.
Others will be checking in from Lake Erie, coastal North Carolina, and the Caribbean.
Starting Wednesday, April 8, 2009, our contact times are 7:00 am and 7:00 pm eastern standard time.
Our contact frequency is 14.227 megahertz, upper side band.
If we can not establish contact on 14.227, we will check in at 7:00 pm EST with the Maritime Mobile Net at 14.300 megahertz, upper side band, and then we will ask for a relay.
Rich, let us know if you can make contact with us.

I'm in the process of overhauling my HF antenna system, so I will not have a directional antenna available on 20m. I checked the Propogation Forecast for April and it looks good from my QTH to East Coast and Caribbean for your schedule (1400Z-2400Z), so I will try and hang some wire and see what happens. Have fun.

Just curious, has anyone been able to make contact with Luke while sailing in the D.R? I got a cell call the other night from him but currently do not have access to a radio.

My antenna system is still down. I am recovering from rotator cuff surgery and Knee surgery, so am not able to do much lifting, hauling, or climbing. I did get a temporary longwire up to use with my tuner, but it blew down in a bad wind storm and I have not been able to get it back up yet.
