Thinking of going sailing, camping at the peninsula on Folsom lake, Ca this weekend. Any advice? I have never been there, but they say it has a beach and/or a dock to park at. has anyone been there before and can tell me the ins and outs? We'll be launching out of browns ravine.

Re: sailing on Folsom
Chris,
I filmed the www.speedyrigger.com videos at Folsom and it is my primary destination, about ten minutes away. The lake is FULL right now. I launch at Granite Bay, across the lake from the marina. The ramp closes early on weekends, around noon due to lack of parking. (When the lake is low there is a lot of parking.)
It is deep in the river channels and shallow outside. You will want to anchor in New York Creek Cove on the South fork not far from the marina, way inside, and it is deep right now, so good luck. There is rock, grass and mud bottom depending on your location, use your electronics to determine your anchor. I have anchored in the marina, across from the slips but it is full of underwater trees, so use your bottom finder. See camping map, below.
Sometimes there is a raftup of sailboats in the cove, if so, just tie up with them and have a good time.

Do NOT operate after 10:00 P.M or before 6:00 A.M., you must be anchored when the park is closed. They will find you...Don't ask how I know. Also stay away from the dam and for sure do not go inside the silver cones there, you will be zapped by the feds. Get close and watch for the white pick up truck. I have fun with this, even when flying an American flag. But I have not ever gone inside those silver cones...
