We may have a problem (other than traffic) with Sandy Point. It is nominally a day-use area, although the boat-launching facilities are open around-the-clock during the summer. I don't know if this means we could leave trailers parked overnight while we anchored out - and I only started to approach this question Saturday evening. I'll call tomorrow morning and find out what I can from the Park office itself.

Casa Rio Marina is indeed limited in parking. Sea Dreamer and I have our boats there, on trailers; we have a lot of Mac company, but some of those boats don't appear to have moved in quite a long time.

It's frustrating to note that the Annapolis area is not very trailer-boat friendly! But if a few of us can get together July 11-12, we might be able to plan something farther-out that will be better.

Three from Pennsylvania. Where is everyone from the Chesapeake Bay area This could yet happen guys We just need someone from the area to take control. Sandy Point State Park sounds like a good place to start. It's real close to Annapolis, and allows those coming from the north to easily by-pass I-95 and save time.

This is my first post. I purchased by '98 Macgregor 26X last year and have a slip on Deep Creek, just off the Magothy RIver. My wife and myself would love to meet up with some fellow Mac owners, and have been wanting to make the trip down to the Rhode River. We are available from July 10 to July 12. My brother-in law has a slip on the Rhode River and has constructed an approx. 8' by 8', well anchored float in the Rhode river that we can raft to if it decided to meet up south of Annapolis. The float has a few chairs, umbrella stand, swim ladder, and kayak. I am willing to help organize. We miss you Wrudd3 up here at Deep Creek!

I have just called Sandy Point State Park about our "Gam".

Sandy Point State Park is a DAY USE area, except the launch ramps are open round-the-clock.
Hours of operation for the summer are 6 AM to sunset.
Admission Mon-Fri during the summer is $4 per Maryland resident, $5 per out-of-state visitor.
Admission Sat-Sun-holidays will be $5 per Maryland resident, $6 per out-of-state visitor.

We can launch and retrieve our boats any time, day or night. When you enter the park for launching, they need you to fill out a contact card, giving names, address, and phone number for emergency contact.

We can park our vehicles & trailers overnight (over the weekend), but the boats cannot stay in the park overnight.
(We'll have to anchor elsewhere. Whitehall Bay, a couple of miles to the south,looks practical on the Bay charts and on Google Earth.)

Let's set the date as 11-12 July.

I contacted the office this morning and spoke to Susan. In addition to what you posted, she recommended getting there before 9AM to launch the boats. If this does come about, I will get there at about 8AM. It takes me about 70 minutes to rig the boat.

We will need to establish a definite meeting point, and time. Establish what channel we will communicate on, and a list of who is definitely coming.

I took another look at Rhode River vs. Sandy Point, yesterday, and I think it may be better for us.

The two marinas with boat ramps are Casa Rio Marina (N 38°53.2' - W 76°30.9') and Holiday Hill Marina (N 38°53.6' - W 76°31.3'). Both have a $15 ramp fee. Casa Rio charges $5 per night for car/trailer storage; Holiday Hill, $10 per night. (Other marinas with ramps are on the other side of the peninsula, at Turkey Point - but that's a few miles around to the Rhode River.)

I know that Casa Rio doesn't have a lot of transient dockage. I don't know about Holiday Hill, but I think they have a few slips for transients. (Bossa Nova lives on her trailer at Casa Rio, so this isn't an issue for me ....)

There's a big weekend anchorage between the two marinas, on the west side of the Rhode River by "High Island", and a good assortment of smaller coves and harbors as well. And across the West River, at Galesville, the "Pirate's Cove" is a good seafood restaurant with plenty of transient docking & mooring.

Let's meet up in Half Moon Bay, on the Rhode River, at 11 AM Saturday, July 11th.

Latitude 38°52.6' N, Longitude 76°31.5' W ... maybe 31.4' W if the tide is out.

If you're trailering in to the Rhode River, Casa Rio Marina (4079 Cadle Creek Rd, Mayo, MD 21106) is convenient.

From US-50 or I-97, take State Route 665 "south" to SR-2, then SR-2 south 3.5 miles to SR-214 (Central Avenue). Turn left on SR-214 and go 4 miles to the post office on the right - just past the "Old Stein Inn" - and turn right there, on Carrs Wharf Road. 0.6 miles down Carrs Wharf Road, you have to turn left on Cadle Creek Road; Casa Rio Marina is 0.3 miles down Cadle Creek Road, on the left.

Talk on VHF channel 71.

Rick: I just PM'd you...we're in. As is Bossa Nova, our boat (FKA Connie Lee) is also on the hard at Casa Rio. I had an idea as far as car/trailer storage goes. We don't actually rent our space from the marina, but from Greg at Grab Bag Sailboats who is a boat broker at the marina, and when we were there last week, he had some open space on his back lot. I'll try to contact him and see if we can get a deal worked out to park cars/trailers on his part of the lot. I'll let everyone know what I find out.

I appreciate the interest I've seen - nonetheless, I am worried about your possible "expectations."

I haven't actually planned anything for this gam, except a time and place to meet up. I hope you all don't expect me to be "Activities Director, Camp Counselor and Chief Caterer" - because I'll disappoint you. Several of you are far more experienced sailors, activity-directors, chefs and party-planners than I ever hope or plan to be; I have never held a party or even heated up a can of chili on board Bossa Nova.

Here are a couple of ideas -
Get some nice photos of each others' boats under sail ... all plain sail, and spinnaker if you've got one.
Proceed down to Galesville either for lunch, late-lunch, or supper; at least two good restaurants down there, probably more.
Raft up somewhere convenient Saturday evening, with heavy hors d'oeuvres (please bring your own choices, but yeah let's share) and whatever "liquid entertainment" you prefer.
One couple who PM'd me referred to their boat as "FKA ..." which I translate "formerly known as". If he&she would like to hold a de-naming ceremony, I can certainly advise them on the protocol and I'm confident that all of us would be informed and sympathetic participants.

I will gladly be "responsible" for collecting names and for being at anchor in Half Moon Bay on Saturday morning. I will undertake to fill my under-seat cooler with ice, bottled water, and beer - though you may not find my taste in beer agreeable; you are therefore encouraged to bring your own.

Beyond that, we are all adults and I believe each of us can be responsible for his or her own safety & conduct.

I hope my stated limitations are acceptable to everyone. If you don't find them acceptable, you are extremely welcome to take over as Event Coordinator, Race Committee Chief, Cruise Counselor, and everything else you think I should do or be.

I hope this doesn't ruffle your feathers. If it does, I can recommend a whole lot of other marinas, anchorages, and places to go - no sarcasm intended, but I don't hold myself responsible for your happiness and I don't believe you should hold me responsible for your happiness either.

Pleasse pardon my rant - I really do want to have fun on the water together this coming weekend!

Spent last night anchored in "Half Moon Bay," across the Rhode River from Cadle Creek (and the place I named for us to meet up Saturday morning), in company with nearly a score of other sail and power boats. It's an eminently suitable place to raft-up Saturday night.

I only saw a couple of mosquitoes, and they didn't like my "Backwoods Cutter" spray.

Great ground for anchoring. I checked the set of my Fortress FX-11, after a few minutes letting the boat's drift pull it in place, by backing down at 2000 RPM ... when I cut the engine, the rode pulled me like a rubber band. But I didn't break out, and I had a hull of a time breaking it out this morning.

Unless the weather is cruddy, we are definitely on.

Temall00, as mentioned before, there is a ramp in Cadle Creek, opposite of where Rick spent a night in the msg just above your post.

Find rt 214 heading East toward Mayo, MD. When you see the Old Stein Inn on your right start looking for the Mayo post office, a single level building made of cinder blocks painted white. It is on the corner of RT 214 and Carr’s Wharf Rd.
Turn right onto Carr’s Wharf Rd. Go almost to the end, on the left is Cadle Creek Rd ( it looks more like a curve in the road you are on), a short distance on the left is the Marina. Go straight through the entrance to bottom of a slight hill. Office is on the right.

I'm on-call that week end, but I plan to to drop by and stay as long as I do not get paged.
