Fall Flotilla Sail, Lake Mead NV, Oct 9-16, 2009
Just a reminder to set aside October 9-16 for the annual Fall Flotilla Sail (week long) on Lake Mead's five basins (see calendar for details). Hope to have a fun "Sailing Rally" between Navigation markers / buoys while transiting the basins. Plan to provide a "Yellow T Shirt" like the Tour de France bike races,
for the Rally Leg winners.

Ahoy Dean,
Not necessary to stay the whole week, but if you don't stay till Wednesday of the Fall Flotilla Sail, you will miss Sherry Corthell's "Turn Around Party" of wine and cheese. Not to mention the "lying and bragging" about the individual skippers' successful sailing "accomplishments" of the week that the wine brings out at that party
. You mentioned you have Monday and Tuesday off, we should be getting underway Monday morning from Middle point for either Echo Bay or Temple Bar depending on the winds. I have made it back to Callville Bay in a day motor sailing from either of those marinas. Raise the group on VHF Channel 68 on the hour to locate us, should you come late.
BTW thanks for securing my halyards that must have gotten loose in the high winds. I know you have been keeping an eye on my boat down at the Callville Bay lower parking lot.

Wife back teaching school so I have been applying for jobs to close gap in my SS contribution. Hope I don't get one and miss part of the Flotilla.
Still trying to decide which boat to bring, X or D? The D has a ballast leak that I just located but haven't figured how to repair yet.
Kimo, I have the leg sheets from the first time we timed each leg or run. Do you still have a way to determine placement? I was in the X.

That would be a bit of a drive for me, but sounds like a great time. What's the weather like that time of year? How about wind?

Have the ability, but don't know if any others kept their tally sheets from last year. If they did we can work up the results of 2008 Sailing Rally.Newell wrote: Kimo, I have the leg sheets from the first time we timed each leg or run. Do you still have a way to determine placement? I was in the X.

Plan to have new Sailing Rally sheets and yellow T shirts for winners of legs. Best you find the leak in your D to be in the running. Told Dean you would show him your sailing "tricks" on the D for him to use on his D.

Weather is great. Still able to take quick swim in 65 degree water. Wind is always iffy. Within the week there is usually at least a couple of days of descent wind. We get sailors from Colorado, California, Arizona, Utah.and of course Nevada. Usually about 12 in all.delevi wrote:That would be a bit of a drive for me, but sounds like a great time. It would be great to have a N. California M make the Flotilla. What PHRF rating would you think is fair for your M? We have been rating the X at 359 based on the VYC time -on-time results and the D at 216 or 213 if it has a modified rudder.
I would like to meet you since I missed catching up with you in 07 when I slipped at Oyster Point. Saw your boat behind the fence.

Hello All Mead Sailors.
"Tropico" will arrive at Mead on Tuesday, Oct 6 in the late afternoon to get lost in the Boulder Basin for a few days. I plan to get a headstart on my sunburn before everyone else starts arriving at Calville Bay on Thurs/Fri/Sat. Look forward to seeing everyone. For those who have not yet sailed at our Spring "Mead Madness" or the "Fall Floatilla", the water in Fall is still warm and daily dips are still the order of the day. I will be in the water for 12 days and always hate to return home. Best wishes and I will monitor channel 68.
You can't control the wind,
but you can adjust the sails.
Blessed be the wind.

It's sounding more and more like you took the deal and pulled the plug.
I have not found a job but now getting interviews so don't know how long I will be there but will make it even if it's only a weekend.

By all means, all trailerable sailboats are welcome to join us. Heck, maybe even some non-trailerable sailboats if you are good people (ha). The more people, the more fun we have. Please come and sail with us.
