If you have a pool, don't be afraid of trying to make one. I didn't use any tool more complicated than a jig saw and since never in waves, bottom is flat about 3/4" . Sides are about 1/4" and deck about 3/8". We get our plywood in mm here. Made the cockpit higher than waterline with drain holes. Also an anchor locker that drains. One extra thing that is fun for them is a crane with a small metal basket that they drop to the bottom of the pool they then dive down and load up with toys they dropped there. Builds lots of skills but they think they are playing. Since then, they have been snorkeling all over the world (Phillipines, Red Sea and Fl Keys) with ease and no fear. I'm sure all the time spent playing in pool and on their boat has built up skill and confidence in water and for boating. Son, now 10, is an excellent helmsman on the

. Floor space is full 8' with space under cockpit like

. Cockpit a little less than 2' , main cabin a little more than 6'. Hand rails and cleats cut from teak boards.Windows 1/4" polycarbonate with a leftover piece cut into an anchor shape and has lead weights from a broken pool cleaner attached to it. Keel holds about 200lbs of batteries and lead sheet left over from lining an xray room. Glue was one part urethane (Gorrila Grip kind).Didn't use fiberglass in house but covered the bottom to waterline with polyester cloth with epoxy. No itching when sanding. Took one month of nights and weekends to finish in Dec for Christmas present although kids were involved in sanding and painting. Cut large pieces in workshop but assembled it inside the house in the playroom (had double doors leading to outside) but wife didn't like the smells, but too cold to work outside in Dec. I once rebuilt a Triumph 650 in my living room but was when I was single, now resigned to the playroom and even that is in jeapardy. Put a small porta pottie in cockpit so kids don't have to climb off when sleeping on it. I think more people should have boats for their kids in their pools. First pool boat I ever made was small red row boat that the kids enjoyed a lot but wanted one with a cabin so they could sleep on it over night. Kids transition from their pools boats to larger ones easily and feel right at home and confident on big ones. Also allows use of pool year round. Bob
