I like this trip as our first group sail. Acquired our 2007 26M a few weeks ago. We should be ready for a group sail by labor day. We'd be driving down from Charleston, SC. I'll be watching the board as plans progress.

Bob,
Welcome aboard, I spent 16 out of 30 years in the Navy in Charleston, SC. Home to me. My son still lives in Summerville. You'll love the ICW and coastal sailing down here. IMHO, South of Amelia Island, FL has some of the nicest undeveloped coastline in the US. Our trip to St Augustine was a great experience and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Whether we go north or south, your sure to find some great coastal scenery and good times. Our grounds go from Jekyll Isand, GA to St Augustine, FL. The St Johns river is great also. Plenty of good ramps and free parking. Look forward to meeting you.

So far I have nine boats that have expressed interest in the meet up; that's four more than last year 8) . I am trying to start an email list of potential captains to help facilitate the dissemination of information. If you are interested in being part of this list pm me with your contact info.

Robert
Welcome aboard! With you and your brother in law that brings the roster to eleven boats. How many boats do we need to be considered and armada?
I'm 2 miles away in AB (over by the Fly's Tie). PM me your email and I'll add you to the JMGT email roster.
I'm also trying to set up a 4th of July sail to the Landing for the fireworks.
Finally, pass the word that this event is not limited to Macs (although all other boats must sail reefed and at least 10 boat lengths behind the slowest mac :P ).
Take care and stay in touch for the latest info...

John,

Why would you want to keep all those non-Mac boats back close to you? :D 8)

Jim,
Easy to say when your on the other side of the ocean. One day, soon, we will race, flat out, and the blue hull will prove out its reputation! :)

Phil

Don't let'em get to you. He's just mad 'cause the only sailing he's done lately has been on Active Captain :P .

By the way, did you and yours ever make it to the Keys?

Hi All,
First post here. We are a Mac owner since spring 07 and keep ours in St. Augustine. We'll try to make it to the Labor Day event. Looks like a lot of fun.

Thanks for the welcome Phil. I made it 20 years in the Navy, only 3 in Charleston, long enough to know this is where we would retire. Looking forward to the trip.

I am glad all those who participated in this years Mug Race had a blast; I wish I could have been there. I also hoped this event served as a teaser for the JMGT later this year.

There are roughly 4 months left until Labor day and we need to start setting up our schedule. Looking at the calendar, I am assuming everyone will try to arrive and rig on Friday the 3rd and de-rig and drive home on Monday the 6th. I can stay and play longer or get there earlier if people are interested so let me know.

I was also trying to get an idea of how many people will be bringing a dinghy. This might be a requirement depending on how we want to spend Saturday and Sunday night.

Those crews familiar with the St. Augustine know the mooring field is large. The public marina offers impressive services and the daily dinghy fee is nominal. If any boats choose to anchor out this facility will most likely be the best option for you. Daily slip fees are 1.95/foot + 6.00 if you want 30 amp service. Full showers, lounge, wi-fi, cable etc...this is truly a great public marina.

Last year we stayed at the Oyster Creek Marina based on Mark's recommendation and it was great. The staff was friendly, facilities in excellent condition and offered a great restaurant on site for an evening meal. Rates were similar to those at the municipal marina. This marina is located 2 or 3 miles from the mooring field.

I have never had my boat in Fernandina but I do know that slips can be hard to come by on a busy weekend. They have a decent amount of moorings set up and available on a first come first serve basis. Slips range from 1.00 to 1.75 a foot and the mooring is 15/day.There is also another marina located on Amelia Island. Their rates are slightly more expensive and they marina is located about 3 miles from "downtown" Fernandina. Phil would be the best person to give the group some up to date info regarding the situation in St. Mary's.

As far as Jacksonville is concerned, dinghy's are not required anywhere with the exception of the Julington Creek and that's only if we are battling with the fishermen to get to the dock. This is where I keep my boat and I do not anticipate this being a problem, but if this does arise there is a restaurant with a pier and a full service marina adjacent to the park so finding slips will not be difficult. Downtown Jacksonville has a great waterfront with ~1000 feet of free docking, a free public marina with 75 slips and a private marina with slips across the river.

If anyone has any questions, comments, complaints or concerns please let me know.

Fair winds...

Greetings and Salutations from Florida,

I hope this message finds everyone well. We are just over two months away from the Second Annual Labor Day Meet up and as promised I have created a web page to help those interested gain a better understanding of what to expect for this years event. Please keep in mind I am an ICU Nurse, not a web designer so please be patient. The site is best viewed in IE 7, Firefox or Chrome.
Those who attended last years event were not disappointed and this year promises to be even better. A new route, a new destination and new adventures are waiting for you and your crew. PM me for details and any questions you might have.

Greetings,

I just wanted to post a reminder about the Jacksonvile Macgregor Meet up.

We are 40 days away from the start of the second annual Jacksonville Macgregor Meet up. If anyone is still interested PM me for details. We have plenty of room on the beach for more boats. The sailing in NE Florida has been phenomenal this season and we have been fortunate enough to remain unaffected by the Gulf Oil Disaster. The itinerary and other information have been posted on the website.

There is talk of a few crews extending their trip and continuing south along the St. Johns River to Lake George. This leg of the trip is still being planned. Check the site for updates.
