Sail Refurbishing
Sail Refurbishing
"ga'Zel" is a 2000 X that has been slipped in Colorado for the last 5 years and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with having the mainsail refurbished. Sail Care in PA claims a refurbishing process that makes the sail "like new again" at far less expense than buying new. Anyone been down this path?

Re: Sail Refurbishing
jon - check out your new sail options before you do this...if you are a good enough sailor to appreciate the diff between new and 5 year old sails, you might want to look beyond stock anyway..

Re: Sail Refurbishing
Jon, I sent both of my mainsails to Sail Care for refurb, my stock Mac sail and my Porpoise loose foot sail. They refurbed my Porpoise sail and sent my Mac sail back and said save your money. I don't think it's worth investing any money in the stock Mac sail if it is stretched (ie; blown out) or torn.
Just my $.02 worth.

Re: Sail Refurbishing
I had them refurbish the main and jib for my first Mac, a V17. They cleaned the sails, fixed 2 small areas where the seams were coming lose, and gave it the new "resin" process. The sails were much better, and the sailing performance improved very noticeably. As long as the sails aren't blown out or torn dramatically they do a very good job at a very reasonable price.
If you have any doubts about the sails, check out Kelly Hanson as they have excellent sails at extremely competitive prices.

Re: Sail Refurbishing
when i was much younger
I refurbished my I-14 sails, removed old numbers. good pool washing, then cut a long narrow diamond off along the foot,, resewed, and added new numbers, after two cans of scotchguard, she was ready to go.
got dirty faster, but seemed to wash off better

jon2710,
I put KH2,000 main and jib on my boat last year that totally changed how it sailed. I have a Doyle main that is in really good condition for sale, PM me if interested.
Where do you slip your boat?

Hi, Bob,
"ga'Zel" is slipped at the South Shore Marina in Pueblo. Just got her in the water last Saturday before Sunday's snow. If you think about coming down please let me know as I could use all the help I can get.
