Painting deck

Post by left-IS-right »

I just picked up an O'Day 22 that has some cosmetic issues, most notably the deck paint being worn down/off. How big a job is refinishing the deck? Anyone know of a good resource for doing this job?

Are you sure it really needs to be painted?

Have you tried cleaning it thoroughly? You might be surprised how well that glass cleans up.
If not, I would go to your local marine store and ask what products they have for the job.

Yeah, the stuff is really flaked off of there. I don't plan on doing it this year, but next, before putting it into the water. I picked up some hull cleaner from walmart, its called Seasense, and contains oaxalic acid, same thing in Starbrite, and works great. Half the price of Starbrite, though. :)

Wal-Mart you say? I'll have to look for it at our local wallyworld.

If it's paint, then paint it is. I know there are some great products out there. I've seen people use them with good success. I suspect proper prep will be the key.

Trailer looks like it needs a little cleaning up as well. Otherwise it's a nice boat. I like O'Days and that double axle trailer is a plus. Overall the trailer looks pretty good.
