Re: New Owner looking for help
Finally got the mast and rigging set up in the driveway, After going through it from top to bottom I feel alot more comfortable with the set up. Does anyone know the best way to clean up (whiten) the sails? They look good structurely but look to be very dirty.

SailCare in Pittsburg is a good plaace to have it professionally done, or so I have heard. Or check out the thread (search) Sail Cleaning/Sail Repair in CT. Lots of useful information there about doing it yourself. Best of Luck

You can get a lot of the grime out using Starbrite Sail Cleaner and a garden hose. Follow the directions on the bottle and wash the sails on a soft surface (and a very soft brush). A dry lawn works well. We just washed the sails on my nephews V17 and they looked almost like new and can be easily done in less than 2 hours so you can do some sailing. At the end of the season, send them off to Sailcare in PA and have them work their magic by cleaning, mending, and doing a re-resin on the sails.

GP
There is a sail maker down here in Jacksonville Florida that might be able to help you out without Sailcares long turn around times. I met the owner while I was at the municipal marina for the July 4th fireworks. I can not speak for his work first hand but he seemed very knowledgeable and gave me some pretty good advice on sail care; I will take my sails to him this winter for a cleaning.

Also, I don't know where in Georgia you are located but if you have your boat on the water by Labor Day there is a Macgregor meet up scheduled in NE Florida that weekend.

Good luck and welcome to the board

Re: New Owner looking for help
I used to own a
for abut 8 years before I upgraded to the
We loved our 19… (actually sold it to have a baby, then bought it back 1 year later from the buyer... turned out I still owned it as the buyer didn't do any of the paperwork.) It was more of a power boat than sailboat with its V bottom… like the 26X is more of a sailboat than a power boat. The 19 would get in irons easier without the jib up.
Here is a 360 view of the inside of my old

Some issues I remember:
No Anchor locker, AND no front hatch to access the front of the boat... had to carry the anchor from the back to the front to anchor out.
The centerboard control is down near the Vee berth, slightly inconvenient and the hole that has the pull wire in it would let splashes of water up it occasionally…. So we kept a small towel over the hole most of the time.
The hatch cover we put on a gas lift on. And it does block your forward view alot when up.
I only took the mast apart a couple of times and wouldn’t do it again because of the mess of wires (stays) that results.
I replaced the trailer with a galvanized one… salt water kills the mac factory one. (did the same to my X... hehe)
Don’t use copper bolts for the rudder shear pins…. It tended to crack the gel coat on the rudders… I used plastic bolts from Lowes.
It has no front hatch (but you can add one) so I installed fans from walmart inside.
I had a 40hp used Johnson (long shaft) and then a 50hp Honda (also long shaft) on it towards the end....OH *** IMPORTANT *** you will need to have a TRANSOM WEDGE (a big one) to have the motor mount properly for trim (the back of the transom is straight, not angled like it should be for most motor boats)
I cut the tiller in half and bolted about 8 inches of the tiller end vertically on top of the tiller that was left to still give me leverge and have more rom in the cockpit with out hitting someone with the tiller when turning.
Feel free to contact me with any questions, and I will try to remember...
