Hi
I just finished five months of overtime and have a few days off. I would like to wax my . I have a West Marine near by. I would like to know what others have used and would like to find a wax to make my BLUE go faster to keep up with those WHITE Macs.
And .....has anyone in the San Diego area seen a "RED" older Mac ???
I do not believe Autoglym is available here in the Colonies : )
Wax and Polish are different JSYK each serves a separate function.. I have had good results with a multitude of Products..
I do prefer Aurora anti fouling wax for beneath the boot strip and I apply it over a good Boat Wax most often an Aurora Product..
I Burnish my wax in not on.. I use an electric buffer.. I have tried all kinds of products for those dang black stripes and have found that nothing last more than a few months.. I .... dont like PolyGlow as it will in time , or so we have heard ....go bad and its a real PITA! to remove and start over ..
My X manual says any automotive wax will do but I picked up some Meguire's Premium Marine Wax this go round. I've never used it before but we've been selling it like crazy (I work at a West Marine) so I thought I'd try it this time.

I do luanch at Oceanside, usually I try to stay in a guest slip for a few days. Im working 12hr nites through monday north at San Onofre, water is starting to look rough as this storm approches. Dont know how your weekend would be on the water with the storm. I also took my to Otay Lake in Chula Vista, they dont usually get sailbaots and the Mac was big to there usual small fishing boats.
Car Wax and Boat Wax can....be hugely different.. You can...really slow you boat down using Car Wax.. JSYK..
Whats the actual effect on a Sailboat Versus a Power Boat? I dont know? I do know that on a power boats it can be several MPH...BTDT...

IIRC Practical sailor rated Collinate the longest lasting, Starbrite and Macguiars were also rated in the top. I use two grades of Meguiars marine polish compound and finish with Meg marine wax. So my arms don't fall off I have the Porte Cable random orbital polisher and the Griots Garage 4in random orbital. Also I use a variety of Lake county pads. For the windows I used 3M ultra fine grade no. 0 rubbing compound.
If you can a better shine , let me know! http://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/v ... =9&t=16006
Since then I have adopted 3m heavy duty scratch compound mixed with wax and finished with Collinite cause I don't have to rub as much and the Collinite wax lasts longer!

The Mac was fun on the lake , mom /dad live there and we went out the weekend before they removed the War II SB2C-4 Helldiver, mid August. We spent the morning fishing the south and southeast end , then sailed back to main portion of lake , lots of tacking, very light winds. Winds light from West and we were able to sail perfectly up and down the rowing course lanes marked with buoys, even slalom between them.
But the light winds were blocked by the hills in some spots and the we dropped from about 4 knots to 1.
