Monterey Bay CA MacGregor owners

Post by Steve F »

Hello. Is there anyone who lives in the Monterey Bay, CA area, who would like a guest for a couple of hours’ sail one of these weekends? I am very interested in buying a 26X or 26M, but figure it the prudent thing to go out on the water in one if possible.

In exchange for some of your time, I would like to offer what I hope is a generous deal, namely, dinner (or beer, or whatever you pirates consume these days) and topped-off gas tank, out of my pocket. If you would like that equivalent in cash instead, we’ll agree on a fair price so you’ll come out ahead. My name’s Steve, and I’ll send you contact info via message.

Yes, Rhode Island is somewhat of a hike right now. Work is eventually taking me back out east at some point in the next couple of years, but I hope to have a boat of my own by the time we cross paths. Happy sailing, and thanks for the response.

Welcome aboard, Steve. I saw an :macx: for sale in Santa Cruz, back in 2008. If it was in the harbor though, it is probably toast. I spent the night a the Monterey Marina and saw an :macm: there. I have sailed Monterey Bay a number of times and always saw a Mac around. I saw several Macs in the Santa Cruz North Harbor (inland from the Murray St. Bridge) and one in Moss Landing, when I overnighted there. I'm sure that there is a Mac owner that will take you up on your request.

Steve,

If you want to make a trip to San Diego, I'd be happy to sail with you in my '96 :macx: .

Thats a pretty small boat for a big bay - I had a Cat 36 (22,000#) heeled at 35 degrees in 35 knots last summer in the Bay - not even in the ocean..

You're right, the bay here really is quirky. The north and south ends are affected by two different systems, and smack in the middle is a steep ditch about a mile deep. My buddy had an F27 trimaran which we'd used several times for booming around, and that seemed to hold up pretty well, whatever the conditions. I'm actually eyeing the Mac for North Carolina, where I expect to be about a year from now.

Mike, if nobody in striking-distance turns up by about the end of May or so, I'd like to try to take you up on that.

Steve,

I may be in your area in early Sept., with my 2001 X. We will launch from Santa Cruz and make our way to Monterey. You are more than welcome to come for a day-sail with the Admiral and me, out of Monterey (we normally get a guest slip for a couple of nights in Monterey). We may have to motor out past Point Conception to find enough wind to sail (Monterey Is a often times in wind shadow). The only price will be: You must escort us to a fine eatery in Monterey, dutch treat. :)

Offer subject to change and local laws, weather, and anything else that might make it fall apart. :D

PS: You are right about the "trench". Corkscrew city across there, if you are headed on a direct course from SC to Monterey.
