I wonder if the tounge is available from the factory.. just in case the tounge is rusted FUBAR. I have bought the goal posts.. be easy for the aluminum trailer owners to bolt it on. we steel trailer guys would be in for some serious welding!

and what do the insides of our axels look like ?? Made of the same stuff but goes fully in the drink all the time. Its surprising that there are not stories of axels on the older trailers failing as it seems likely that sooner or later they will????

the M aluminim trailers with torsion axles are all hot dipped galvanised inside an out, looks like UFP did a quality job also.

When it comes to my boat and trailer, I am unable to remain silent. I must speak up and remove all doubt (that I'm an idiot)

What's a torsion axle? :(

That means that instead of the traditional leaf spring type suspection, your suspension works something like this

Mine's unpainted gal axel casing.

I'd like to take off the wheels to get in & remove the hubs at the suspension adjustment bolts. The axel casing has a cap on either end. Taking this cap off to see inside then spraying Lanox in there may be an idea for peace of mind. May be best to do this after disconnecting brake lines at the wheels to avoid brake line damage. Just bled them too.

mmm, not sure what happened to mine then, guess they ran out of gal paint at the factory on the day they made mine :?

I'm not with ya about how to get those caps off. Doesnt the torsion bar thingy come out the end of the axel (though those caps maybe)?

Thanks J, checked it out. Mine does have the surge brakes and boarding ladder of the deluxe trailer, just not the galv axel. I believe I have seen another trailer the same as mine too, so guess a few ended up like this :?:

One thing I do know is, after seeing Daves job painting inside the draw bar, I had a look at mine and the amount of corrosion is quite alarming! From the top inside of the box section an inch long piece of rust was falling away, which is about half the thickness of the actual box section :!: My trailer only travels 200 metres to the boat ramp at present so I'm not too concerned, but I reckon some of the guys with older trailers should deffinately take a look at that drawbar!

As an owner of a much older 26x and trailer I can't agree more....as the draw bar is the only "hidden" section and all other sections are open "c" channel, the drawbar needs special attention.More to the point complete replacement was in order with a substantial replacement. With ours we replaced the box section with a heavier one and then added a rectangular section underneath effectively nearly doubling the strength.Further steel was added in the triangle where the drawbar and two main beams meet. The whole lot was then sandblasted and painted with the POR15 system.
