Florida Spring 2011 Trip.....
I finally finished about the first month of our Spring 2011 trip to the west coast of Florida and on to the keys. The report at this point covers from putting in off of Charlotte Harbor down to Everglades City. If I continue it will finish off with down to the middle keys and then up to south of Miami.
The trip index is here....
http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner ... index.html
and a page on if I should continue the report here...
http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner ... 11-14.html
I'd appreciate any feedback I can get on that page. These reports can amount to a lot of time and I'm just wondering if they are worth it.
Thanks,
Sumner

Sumner,
really enjoyed reading your lastest Florida trip. You do a get job IMHO. You give great details, photos that make those of us still working wish we could dorp everything and just go, hyperlinks to web sites that save us from having to do the research ourselves. Many do not realize the time and effect it takes to do these things. Folks like youself could go trips and have adventures but not share it with of us, that would be a shame. Many thanks to you and Ruth.
WOW!!! great stories and I didn't need to buy a book.

Re: Florida Spring 2011 Trip.....
Sum,
I know the amount of time you are spending on this report and others. I have always read your previous trips and went thru a page and half to let you know this is very useful information. The snow birds will love reading it this winter and I will finish reading in spare time. So far the info and pictures are first class editorial makeing!
.
Many can use your info as a cruiseing Guide from SW Florida to the Everglades and upper Keys.
Keep up the good work and contuie the next Phase. (I won't hold you to it).
Also consider writeing paid articals for boating magizines.

1. Do you like the layout of the pages? Page layout is good
2. To much info or too little? as i live in the Pacific north west I may never get down there, so the charts got in my way but others would find them helpfull. the google images were great
3. I can get wordy I know. Should I cut back on the dialog or is it ok? your discriptions of where you are are great keeps me dreaming when im not on my
4. More trip pictures or less? pics are great
5. Cut out the info on how the boat is setup or leave it? KEEP IT i've got an X so your stuff wouldn't fit my boat but they give me ideas.
6. Anything else you would like to comment on.
7. I have the rest of the trip report done as far as the SeaClear route maps and some info and the Google pictures with some info. Are you interested in seeing that without additional pictures and day logs? like the day logs
Thanks for all your hard work

Sumner,
I'm sure it's a lot work to transcribe your trip, but there are a lot of us 'living the dream' through you and Ruth. Please keep us all in the loop. Hopefully someday your inf. will help us if we get to try some of your adventures.
Fair winds,
Briggs

Hi Sumner,
Please continue the way you are going as long as it's convenient. Your logs are great and and keep me dreaming of being on my boat too. I have only succeeded in having time to put one slideshow together and a bad one at that. Nice to see the details. Feels like we are there with you.

Just got to the end and I like the way you have it. I did skip the charts at the bottom of pages.
linking to some of your mods is good. I have seen most of them but still a few I havent read, so it's nice they are there.

Sumner,
I really enjoy your trips. I live in Key Largo and just received a Macgregor 26 in June. We have been sailing all around Key Largo and are planning a trip to the Dry Tortugas in the spring. Next time you are in the area let me know.

Re: Florida Spring 2011 Trip.....
I just wanted to say thanks for all of the input guys on here and via e-mail. That helps and it is nice to know that people are reading more than just the first page of the trip
.
I'm working on the the portion of the trip from Everglades City to Marathon and hope to have it posted in the next week and will post when I do.
Then I'll work on the part from there up to South Dade Marine. Dave Key Largo and Sunset Cove was one of our favorite places and hope to be back there some time with the Endeavour. Are you on the Gulf side or the Atlantic side?

We launch on the bayside at Blackwater sound. We like to sail on the ocean side. We just drop the mast and motor through Adams cut and out to the ocean. Or you can sail out through Jewfish Creek, Barnes Sound and out to the ocean.

Re: Florida Spring 2011 Trip.....
I looked at the chart and after Adams Cut then do you go across Largo Sound and then down South Sound Creek out into the Atlantic? Is there no place to launch on the Atlantic side?foursail wrote:We launch on the bayside at Blackwater sound. We like to sail on the ocean side. We went across Blackwater and up Jewfish Creek and then over to Manatee Bay and anchored there the last night before taking out the next morning at South Dade Marina. There was a lot of wind that day and the couple miles across Barnes Sound to Manatee with the waves coming in on the starboard side of the stern was not fun for Ruth.
Blackwater looked like it would be a good place to sail with a Mac. A fairly large area of deep water. Going from Blackwater up through Jewfish and then out into the Atlantic looks like it might be more than a day trip. How far is that and where do you go out? We want to take the Endeavour back to that whole area. We liked it there. If things work right I think this spring will be to the lower keys below Marathon,

Re: Florida Spring 2011 Trip.....
We have a home owner's park here that we belong to so I can have the boat in the water in about ten minutes after I leave the house. There are ramps on the ocean side. Last weekend we launched at Harry Harris park on the south end of Key Largo on the ocean for a change of scenery. We have had the boat since June and are still getting to know her. I like to go out north creek from Largo sound. Less boat traffic. You have some really big boats coming out of Pennekamp like the glass bottom boat and dive boats using south sound creek.

Dave thanks for the info. You have some really nice options there on where to go depending on the conditions. Enjoy them, foursail wrote:We have a home owner's park here that we belong to so I can have the boat in the water in about ten minutes after I leave the house. There are ramps on the ocean side.
