What Is Your Wind Speed On A Pictute Perfect Day?

Post by GaryMayo »

My wife likes it about 10 mph. I want it at just about white cap time.

When I sailed years ago, the more wind the better. Snapped a mast once in high winds and rain. Small single person sailboat.

What is your favorite winds?

12kts, ~10 deg before the beam does it for me aboard my :macx:
I look to find that groove where she seems to lift out of the water like a thoroughbred leaping from a gate.
You can feel the power as she lifts and accelerates
Well balanced and heeled like that, I swear I could go on forever!

Anyone else ever find "that" groove??

It's at that point I experience the "ZEN" of sailing! 8)

Then I have to clean the bugs out of my teeth from smiling so much.....

10 knots beating to Windward, 12 knots on a broad reach,14 knots abaft the beam,16 knots downwind. :D
Four sheets to the wind, add another 3 knots to all points of sail. 8)

Ill sail in anything under 20. If its 0, ill still enjoy a day just watching the sails hang

15 is pretty nice - good power but easily handleable

10-12 kts. Here on Lake Mead there is not a lot of swell. However you get a lot of chop when the winds pick up over 12+. Also you can be sailing along pretty as a picture and a gust will come out of a canyon and knock you down. Voice of experience. Lesson, keep a hand on the mainsheet. Fair winds and full sails....Old Salt.
