Black hull Mac?
Could be in the works. One for sure already just done. Question is, how about; two tone deck, light tan, medium tan non-skid. Black hull with white stripes. A formal 26M! That is the most likley color choice for the new 70Mac. See your dealer.

70 feet of black hull? My god, that will be hot below... or it will cost a ton of energy to keep it cool!

Re: Black hull Mac?
If the black gel coat is anything like the black stripe stuff used now,
RUN THE OTHER WAY AS FAST AS YOUR LITTLE LEGS CAN TAKE YOU!
IMHO, of course.
I cuss the endless effort needed to just keep the black stripes looking half way decent.
No doubt, a disease on my part.
But, oh my goodness if the entire hull was that way.
I'd have to stay away from any rope just laying around.
I'd hang myself.
Sure would be pretty.
Only on YOUR boat.

Re: Black hull Mac?
It all comes down to the thermal characteristics for me. For southern California I think I'm sticking with white decks, but for northern climes a boat that keeps itself warm would probably be a great seller. You might consider different paint schemes for different latitudes and ask roger to put some effort into determining exactly how much reflectance/vs. absorbance in watts/hr. the sunlight impacting the boat would be. Color schemes tuned to keep the boat comfortable at the owner's latitude would be a pretty awesome selling point IMHO--certainly "green".mikelinmon wrote:Could be in the works. Re: Black hull Mac?
Yes, well as I type I have sweat dripping down my brow from just doing the monthly polish (still have to wax...) of the black stripes due to that awful oxidization (will have to do the yearly polish wax of the white hull soon too I guess
) Now don't get me wrong, I am a confirmed Mac lover, but I still think black gel coat is the worst invention since the Jet ski
Not only is it impossible to stop that oxidization, but its harder to keep clean and the scratches are white..
Dont get me wrong, I am only basing my observations on the hot climate in which I live. If that is not the case with darker gel coats in colder areas, then I'm sure black will make a beautiful boat. but if someone brought one in here, I reckon the mac bashing fraternity would be on it LOL

Re: Black hull Mac?
Black hulls are available now, through your macGregor dealer on new
Order away!
I mentioned this to my dealer, and he said no they are not, in a very polite John way, but he checked with MacGregor, and called me back, saying they are available.
Mine has black bottom paint, so on a trailer it somewhat matches my truck, along with black striping. Close enough. One reason I purchased it was the black on it.
The deck floor needs to stay white.
They say, if every roof in the world was white, it would save a lot of waisted cooling costs.

Re: Black hull Mac?
Ya bought the boat cause it matches ya truck
bit of colour co-ordination eh
You and my missus would get on real well
Must admit, the white M looks much better with a black bottom,, which is why I have left the old anitfoul on it even though it dont live in the water. Will get around to some decent paint sooner or later.........

Re: Black hull Mac?
Just giving the boat a bit of a polish and remembered seeing this thread, crikey why anyone would want a black boat unless you are permanently where the sun doesn't shine is beyond me, the sides just maybe but not the deck.
Was walking on the deck and the white is actually cool but then it is a cool day 20 deg c, put some water on the black which I couldn't hold my hand on and it actually steamed, couldn't even use the wet and dry to remove a couple of scratches as it dryed too quick, black on deck goes a dull powdery colour within days of polishing due to the heat absorbtion mind you I would imagine blue would too and is the reason the dealer said not to get one.
To walk on the deck on a hot day it is actually unsafe trying to jump the black bits especially as they seem to be slipperier when wet which is probably from the black residue baked off them.
Even yesterday which was cloudy and quite cool the black was warm while the white was cold, the son in law has a black truck which looks great but he has the same problem trying to keep it looking good outside.
White is good.

Mike, how about a medium-dark Green Hull w/ Tan Stripes and a two tone Tan deck for the M ? Classic beauty !mikelinmon wrote:Could be in the works. One for sure already just done. Re: Black hull Mac?
If you glued solar cells over the whole hull then you could have a black hull that never needs wax plus a truly viable electric boat option.
I have just united THREE threads. Yay me
Ixneigh
You could do it for the price of an etec and an added two hundred pounds of cells and sealant on the hull sides.

That green and tan is just about my choice. I had a 40' Chinese Junk those colors. Wish I still had her.
