google earth, look at far north end of town past university research center.there is a large fully walled enclosed boat yard/ pemex station, with resident live in owner, he also has small tractor to launch your boat if needed.many americans leave their 250K dollar boats in his care year round i have no worries parking my truck and trailer in his yard, of course he'll want 20 bucks or more for a month.hiway 15 from nogales to hermasillo is good as far as mex hiways go,naturally in places there is poor shoulders, construction, cows horses.also is a toll road, four toll booths over 200 miles at 30-80 pesos per booth if your towing,no more us dollars, only accept pesos now.also now you can purchase your tip, tourist permit, fish lic,mex liability for boat, and national park permits(some islands are now protected nat parks) all on line now so you don;t waste time dealing with the mex offcials on your way down.

Re: Sea of Cortez
Thanks Ray. I was using Google Earth to look around yesterday and found the place ...raycarlson wrote:google earth, look at far north end of town past university research center.there is a large fully walled enclosed boat yard/ pemex station, with resident live in owner, he also has small tractor to launch your boat if needed.many americans leave their 250K dollar boats in his care year round i have no worries parking my truck and trailer in his yard, of course he'll want 20 bucks or more for a month.hiway 15 from nogales to hermasillo is good as far as mex hiways go,naturally in places there is poor shoulders, construction, cows horses.also is a toll road, four toll booths over 200 miles at 30-80 pesos per booth if your towing,no more us dollars, only accept pesos now.also now you can purchase your tip, tourist permit, fish lic,mex liability for boat, and national park permits(some islands are now protected nat parks) all on line now so you don;t waste time dealing with the mex offcials on your way down.

...that I think you are talking about. If that is it, then yes I would feel comfortable leaving the tow vehicle there. That whole area of the Sea of Cortez looks real interesting and you could also cross there and work down the west side. I hope we are able to make the trip. The easy launching of our Mac's would open up that area to us that others wouldn't have the time to get to from further south.
I've kept copies of the info that you have supplied,

...looks like lots of good info.
We are lucky in that we don't have any real time limits on our trips, but that also comes with a price.....advancing age

Re: Sea of Cortez
I am thinking about returning for another sail in the sea of cortez. I would not be able to make it until early April. I spent some time there in 2000 and in was a great trip. I put in at Pueto Cidos on the Baja side as the San Felipe marina was not sutable at the time. The only set back was the Santa anna winds which were wicked. Back then you could leave you truck and trailer at the local police station for a small donation. I would look at other trips if people wanted to buddy up for a good cruise. My time slot would be 30 to 50 days. Hope to hear from other adventurers.

What a great idea - - - would probably still work today!eonsdream wrote: Back then you could leave your truck and trailer at the local police station for a small donation.
The launch ramp at San Felipe Marina (at the seawall) is concrete, easy to use to launch except there are no docks at the ramp - - - which makes retreival much more difficult!
There are a new set of docks there now which can be used temporarily - - - as well as a fuel dock.
