BB,

PM me and I'll give you a brief run down of the Jax Macs 2010 run to Cumberland. It was an amazing place to visit especially by sail. Also PM Phil Jones a.k.a the Mayor of St. Mary's. I recommend the public boat ramp located in downtown St. Mary's if you're pressed for time. Again, contact Phil. He's a great resource for information for that area.

St Marys downtown waterfront has a better launch ramp and more ammenities (fuel, water, ice, better security and free parking). It is about 5 miles to Cumberland sound and probably a bit closer unless your planning to run up to Plum Orchard. You can tie up overnight at the St Marys dock if space is available.
Let me know when you are launching and I can give you some local knowledge on the ever changing sand bars and mud flats that visitors tangle with from time to time.

You can say both because they are equally and painfully accurate.

There is a great ramp at the north end of 14th st in fernandina beach. You can see Cumberland Island across the sound. I live in FB and use the ramp often. Lots of room to set up boat and the overhead is clear. Good luck :macm:

We live right around the corner (literally - My wife and I walk there all the time) from the Fernandina Beach boat ramp on Cumberland Sound. We had a great time on the Labor Day trip and would love to see you again. When are you planning on coming down?

You will Love Cumberland Island. Been there a couple of times. At Seacamp, you can tie up to the dock during the day if theres room. There is a great anchorage just north of that dock as well.

When are you going? I'm actually planning a Jekyll to Cumberland cruise during my kid's spring break Mar 24 thru 30 if the weather permits.

If you launch at St Mary's try to do so at anything but low tide. I ran my trailor off the edge, but, the tide was waaaay out and I did manage to snatch it back up pretty easy.

Oh yea, really pay attention to c130king and Jcasale, they really know what they are talking about. 8)

Have Fun!

Actually Dave, I have never been to Cumberland Island or St. Mary's.

BB, Don't listen to John (Jcasale) as he is a certified nut-case and I have the pictures to prove it (see attached video...that is John shooting the video). You need to pay attention to Phil (Paj637) and Mark (Unwinder) as they are locals with Phil from St. Mary's and Mark from Fernandina Beach.

I will be back there eventually sailing with my FL and GA buddies...JMGT 2013????

Sorry, can't make it in 2012...I retire on 31 Aug here in the Puzzle Palace and will start the drive to my new home in Mississippi on 1 Sept.

Cheers,
Jim
