Extending trailer to back of boat and add axle
I am checking to see if anyone has added the 4ft to the back of a Mac trailer and added a second axel. The boat has no support the last 4 ft or so. I would like to add a honda 90 hp engine in a few years and want to get the back of the boat supported to handle the extra weight.

I've already added the extra axle to my trailer for way, way less than $3300. My trailer is relatively new ('00) use is primarily fresh water and I'm not as concerned about rustout as the salt water sailors.
I don't think extending the existing trailer is a worthwhile exercise, but, as long as you situate your second axle for proper weight distribution and tongue weight, I would not hesitate to run a much heavier engine without extending the trailer.

Mark I agree with Chip the second axle is the way to go, unless you don't
mind spending the money. I've attached a pic of the job I did on mine and it came out very well .I Have towed hundreds of miles and one emergency stop and it works great. If your interested I'll send the pic.s I took while adding
the axle... George
