The Magma grill is expensive, but it's quality SS and one of the best additions we made to our boat.

I have the sport extreme model. Works well and does not take a lot of space. I have it mounted on the rail of my stern seat with a small extension.

I lost my round one last year. I'm going to buy a model with a tray in the front this time.......not sure if I will go propane or charcoal. The most important part is not having to clean the grease and having a shelf as far as I'm concerned.
Like this maybe: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... sNum=51159

We are very happy with the Magma kettle 2 party size, it is perfect for grilling for 4 people. These grills are very well built, once docking with engine trouble, the grill worked as a bumper (not intentionally), I thought it was destroyed and only has some very minor scratches.

It does not have a shelf, but you can always add one of these: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000XBB18G?tag ... let-tables

Also have the Magma charcoal party grill - good quality stuff that will last a lifetime I reckon, and the price reflects it! The mount is super strong (I have a coupla spares as I was going to mount my solar panel with em).

I was leaving my BBQ connected to the boat when trailering and recently while traveling down the highway at 100km (60mph) the BBQ cover got loose and blew away. THe lid to the Magma then got loose and was blowing in the wind until the cable gave way and it blew away. A nice young lady followed me and stopped me 6 miles away to let me know. I went back and found it on the side of the road expecting it to be mangled. There was just a small scratch on it :D Searched the Sugar cane field beside the road high and low for the dam cover with no luck - theres 60 bucks or so :(

So its nice and strong for sure but perhaps more importantly, it cooks great food! 8) and you can easily unscrew it from the mount and put it on the beach to cook when you are drying out on some remote beach somewhere - Love the Magma, gas would be less hassle I'm sure, but dont think it would taste as good!

good!
I agree charcoal is better. I imagine the grease clean up is negligeable with charcoal right?

I purchased a SS grill that most on this site did not go for, a Kuuma. I like the size. I like the rectangular shape (I am able to store it away in the port bilge access area across from the head)), and there is not a grease problem. Maybe I use leaner hamburger meat :?:

This is a photo from the company site.

I have the magma 2 party size grill and love it. I bought the gas version, cause I didn't want to deal with the charcoal.

I have the Cabo. Got it on sale for around $100. Like the bbq but on the stern rail seat (which is the only place to mount it) it doesn't grab the railing that well ( i suspect cause it's a shaped railing (rounded)) and am looking at getting a ss clamp on bar to go over the engine in between the mast support. Might have to watch the grease tray but it should be better than having to constantly adjust the whole bbq and be able to use the shelf (which I cannot currently use)

I had a charcoal Magma on my last boat. Love charcoal flavor, but it is more work to setup, get lit, etc. I miss it sometimes.
The gas is gas, but we can control it better. We "grill" breakfast, lunch and dinner on it.
The picture of the mount looks flimsy, but you are right, it's rock solid. We bought a matching cover and leave the grill off the back all the time.
If I had to look at the best money spent on the boat it would have to be that grill.

We use the teflon skillet propane for eggs, bacon, homefries, onion and peppers, saugage, hot dogs,sausage,hambergers..etc. For chickeno bone in or steak, lamb and pork chops we use the coleman propane barbacue at the foot of campanionway hatch and I am kicked out of the cooking area. the skillet is cooked on the table down below.
Reason is winds are dangerious in a open area and keeping the cooking area low in cockpit works perfect.
Skillet cost $39 propane, inclosed coleman grill 30-40 dollars, we are on our 4th year useing them both in Florida.
Might add, both can be used on beach.
We do cook anything else on the single butane burner at the gally.

IMHO ? No Charcoal.. among other issues? Blowing Ashes & Clean up.. Hot coals an hour after your done.. No Thanks..
I have a SS Kettle Model numerous ones are available.. The Rectangular ones now available look nice as well... I too, have a Coleman SS camp stove for "real" cooking..blablabla.. Yep I can stand in the cabin at the ladder and cook through the companionway in the Cockpit...
I agree .. wind can be an issue .. If its too much for the BBQ I can always Pan Fry on the cook stove..
I almost spent money on a Built-in(?) LPG Stove & Oven.. Now I am Glad I didn't..

Absolutely...I love charcoal at home, but wouldn't even consider it on the boat. Also if it is too windy the bbq will not work. Cooked on it for an hour and it barely got warm last year...and was very grateful we had the stove top in the cabin or we would have been very hungry.
