I've often thought that the area opposite the M head would be better served by storage cupboards of some sort, in fact haven't several people already done that?

Even though I have not received my 26X yet ( it will be dellivered as soon as weather permits) I found a difference between the X and the M that ( I think) no one has talked about and which is important if you want to put on large headsail ( tied at the masthead): the X has a backstay and the M does not, because of the rotating mast. This puts a heavy load on the upper part of the mast, which is unsupported on the M.

The load is (probably) the same for X and M and only depending on sail/wind condition - no problem with no the backstay :)

Maybe

But I have yet to see an X that is rigged to fly up to 6 head sails & have an ajustable backstay on a traveler as my M that is fully rigged as a Cutter Rig ! :) :P

Almost all saiboats have a backstay. Its main purpose is to support the mast when sailing downwind. This stay is not there just for looks. Sailing downwind with a masthead fastened spinnaker puts an enormous stress on the part of the mast above the spreaders, which is taken by the backstay. On the Mac ( M or X) all the factory sails are fastened approximately 24 ft from the mast base, so that there is almost no stress on the unsupported few feet at the top of the mast. Using non-standard downwind sails ( sails fastened higher than the 24 ft of the standard sail) can put the mast at risk. Hence my remark that the presence of a backstay can make an important difference between the X and the M.

John, I'll bet you a wee bottle of Scotch your mast isn't rotating as much with all that gear on it. Would you consider the need to add a bit of line to turn it more?

A picture of the six set headsails, would be a treat you know..

My mast rotates just fine ! :D :P even with the extra third set of masthead shrouds second set of spreaders , three sets of forestays , three sets of furlers & backstay the  of the backstay on a traveler is so that the backstay is always pulling back on the mast no matter what possition the mast is rotated in
I have flown 4 headsails at once 2yrs ago but did not have enough cleats @ the time to hold all the sheeting lines so it was a pita but she is rigged up now will do again when I have someone in another boat to take pics

Might just have to drag my sorry trailer to Meaford this summer if I can get the house sold on time. Would seriously like to have a detailed look at your setup (will bring camera as well as wee bottle of Scotch).

That's The Beauty of this boat.. do as you desire... Is It A Seat? My Dog and on occasion my grandson uses it at as a Berth.. Under it is a HUGE amount of protected and contained storage( I made mine so as to have a flat ventilated bottom panel) In The Mods section you'll see many have made front access doors of numerous styles for many / most / all those storage areas..

Yes, not only have such things been discussed before, but the vitriol from one such discussion almost closed down this board.

We joke about it, but really, folks can get pretty territorial about their choice in boats and some pretty heated and nasty arguments can ensue, and have. As a mod, I'd rather we didn't play with fire, if you please.
