Any Mac 26M owners close to Montreal, QC

Post by rogimag »

Greetings all,

I do immediately apologize for sending this unusual request, however I do not know anyone personally who owns an M, so it is my only chance.

To make a long story short, I am planning to buy Macgregor 26M and to my embarrassment have never been on this boat before.

So I am curious, if someone would invite me to show the boat, to share their buying experience, and etc.

Beer on me :-)

You could send a private email to rogimag at hotmail dot com

Thanks,
Igor.

I recently purchased a new Mac 26M and have to paint the barrier and anti fouling coats.
How are you painting you Mac? Are you doing it with the boat on the trailer? If so, how are you doing it?

Thanks

Igor,

Perhaps I might be able to help you although my Mac won't be in the water for another week or two.

Not really close, but with Macs, distances are very short ... St.Tropez FRANCE, you know ?
If you come around, perhaps I can help you.

I have a 26X I keep in my driveway in Terrebonne just north of the 640 and rte 335, you're welcome to have a look. I was considering an M as well but made the decision to buy the X simply because of the swing centerboard. Lac des Deux Montagnes and Lac St. Louis become notoriously shallow in the late summer and are full of rocks and sandbars.

I guess the other local M owners can chime in as to whether that's a problem for them or not, but IMHO dragging the centerboard or daggerboard is not a question of IF it's a question of WHEN. They say the same thing for pilots of retractable-gear airplanes: there are two groups, those who have and those who haven't yet. (Land with the gear up, that is.)

I haven't dragged the centerboard on the X yet but did several times on my Siren 17 some years ago. That was a metal centerboard and I'll never forget the sound it made grating over the rocks. I am convinced that it will happen eventually, probably when I least want it to, and when it does I suspect that I will be happy that I am driving an X and not an M.

I also remember feeling that there was more room upstairs in the X which is where I spend most of my time. Nothing against the M though, it's a beautiful boat but I just didn't feel that it was right for me in this area.

i know that Lac deux montagne is very shallow in the middle, found out with my princecraft. And i learned how to sail on Lake St. Louis on a Tanzer 22, and hit bottom a few times. I prefer the Ottawa river or the Saint Lawrence, not great for sailing, but great to find nice places to anchor and watch the sunset.

Just spent 4 days bottom coating my Mac 26M, still have to do the parts under the jacks, will do that next weekend. I think next time I have to do this I will pay the 2K to have it done.

For anyone near Montreal
Where do you launch your boat from? I am still looking for good boat launches.

I saw two public ramps in Chateauguay, however they looked to me little bit too steep. I found very handy site that lists all Quebec marinas http://marinas.com/browse/marina/CA/QC/cities/
