Moving to a multihull

After 7 great seasons with our 2005 , we needed to face the fact that our family is growing [through marriage -- the Admiral and I being well past the reproductive phase ], so we're buying a Gemini 3400 catamaran. Blue Heaven is therefore now up for sale, along with her many mods and enhancements and her shiny new dual-axle roller trailer. I've throughly enjoyed participating in this very valuable forum since 'way back when we were first shopping the boat shows for a trailerable. I expect that I'll continue to read it regularly, but I won't have any new MacGregor mods of my own to post.

Have fun with the new Cat, but remember the 26m is much easier to tow. Just saying, don't get low balled on the price. You can always keep both as the Mac is cheap to store if you don't store at the marina.

The Catamaran will be a great boat for the Chesapeake.

When I was shopping for a Mac, the mental debate was between a multihull and a motorsailer. The Mac was better suited to my present needs, especially trailering and trailer launch capability (enough with the Travelifts and haulout fees), and to the sailing areas I wanted to try, like the Erie Canal, Finger Lakes, and Thousand Islands (get there in a few hours instead of two days on my keelboat). But when I'm done with my , and move down south, I'll be in the market for a cat or trimaran.

Moving from a multihull.
After more than 30 years with monohulls, I bought a 27 ft racing catamaran and sailed 6 years with it. But singlehandling this beast capable of 20+kts, is quite demanding, and I just bought a MAc26x. Quite a different boat! I think I will like it, but just in case, I keep the cat sleeping for a year and then I'll see.

Notice to all prospective buyers - you're a day late and a dollar short.
Blue Heaven has a new owner, and will soon be on her way to a new home in Chile, of all places. Looks like I should have negotiated some visitation rights.
We will miss our lovely blue , for sure, but work on our new vessel is progressing nicely, and we plan to start a trip from Oriental, NC north to our marina on the upper Chesapeake during the first week of June.
Here's our Gemini in the midst of getting her formerly-blistered bottom coated with epoxy barrier paint.

Nice boat!! We plan on getting a Gemini also, a 105MC, 5 or more years out. I've heard of a few Mac owers moving on to multihulls. Met a couple at Rosario Resort who gave us a tour of their Gemini 105MC, they used to have a , they said they love the new boat but have fond memories of their Mac. We plan on making full use of our over the coming years, I want to take advantage of it's mobility by towing it around and putting in the many great waterways of the USA.
