Weekend Sailing & 3-Boat Raft-Up

Post by c130king »

Just got back from a really nice weekend on the Chesapeake. Tony (aka TFlight) and Pedro (aka Sea Wind) set off on Friday and spent the night at Deep Creek Marina/Restaurant off the Magothy River. They set out Saturday AM for Eastern Neck Island across the Bay.

I launched Saturday AM around 7:00 and had a nice Spinnaker Run North towards the Bay Bridge until the wind died and motored up to Sandy Pt State Park for a refuel and bathroom break. And while I was there I was inspected by the Coast Guard Auxilliary. The guy walked up to me while refueling and said "What do you know, a Macgregor". He said he used to own a Macgregor and he knew who I was from my posts on the this forum. His name is Tony and he was SuzieQ on this forum but I can't find his username. Anyway, the inspection was thorough and I have a CG sticker for my boat saying I was inspected.

Left SPSP and got back under Spinnaker for a couple of hours heading NE across the Bay up towards Love Point and then around the Point towards Eastern Neck Island. About the time I got up there Tony and Pedro jumped into Castle Harbor Marina for some fuel. But the timing was perfect and they came out and caught me just as I was sailing abeam the marina.

The three of us continued to sail back behind Eastern Neck Island and eventually made our way into a small protected cove called Earl's Cove. Kind of shallow getting in but once inside the water was 5+' deep. Pedro dropped his anchor and Tony and I rafted up on either side of him. And then Pedro dropped something else...part of his grill overboard. But after about 10 minutes of diving in the 6' deep water and feeling around in the ooze he found it and he cooked up some great burgers.

Tony had a small inflatable he bought on Amazon and we got some good pictures and video of the raft-up.

Did I forget to mention the Wing-on-Wing with the Spinnaker... 8)

Sounds like a great time. For Pedro... I've been thinking about getting a second regulator for my Magma for the exact reason you made your successful dive.

It was a great weekend.
Bob: I am going to attach fisinhg line from the regulator to the grill handle to avoid a second dive.

I carry an extra regulator (Scuba regulator and 19cu. foot pony bottle) in case I lose my Magma reg

That's funny...we actually got out a tape measure and measured.

From cabin hatch to back of Captain's seat...same distance.

In the foot well at widest part of cockpit...same distance.

Seat backs at widest part of the cockpit...26X is 2" wider.

And from seat to floor 26X is 2" higher.

But I have to admit...it sure seemed even roomier than that.

But the real reason we did it was 1) Pedro's 26X was in the middle, 2) He had the grill on his boat and 3) Sea Wind has a cockpit table.

Cheers,
Jim

The B.E.E.R. cruise is coming up the first week of June in Pensacola. So far about 7 Macs have signed up including Sea Wind.

Sigh, "bucket list" event. I just do not get enough vacation time to do two big trips in one year! Hopefully next summer...

Looks like you had a great time. In the mid 70' our cruising fleet went to Emerald Bay, Catalina and rafted up 26 boats. Wife came up with idea for a smorgasboat and everyone went from boat to boat sampling snacks. All went well except for the guy who slipped and sat in a tray of deviled eggs :D . Nuthin' beats cruisin', boozin' and snoozin'.
