Thanks for letting me join
Thanks dlandersson for letting me join you Sunday! I had a blast. Caught a couple of gusts that made us heel quite a bit and raise our adrenaline but it was fun!

There should be pics at some point - how about one of some sunburn? lol.
Quite interesting time - as we cruised mostly westward, there were a couple of "tunnels" of fast moving air along with an overall nice breeze. Lot's of heeling going on. In fact, a nice lesson in "reading" the situation. We noticed we were suddenly catching up to some other boats - and simply put it down to our wonderful seamanship, then suddenly, the water is just shy of the port cockpit - eyes got bigger and we were busy little beavers.

The pictures don't show everything on the table dumped on the cabin floor as we heeled to 30 degrees.
Lesson learned for moi.
Another lesson, Ryan is a (slightly) better sailor than I am.

Ryan,
I am seriously impressed (and a bit jealous) about the quality of your camera in your smartphone.
Guess I need to break down and read my manual.

Looks like fun. I had the same problem first time out with stuff falling all over when we heeled. Now everything will have a secure place to live. DL can we beach our boats along the Indiana shores or do we have to anchor out? I will be putting ours in on Saturday afternoon at Hammond.

Depends on the beach. Ryan's 3rd pic down shows "Mount Baldy" which has a beautiful beach and you can run right up to it - and boaters often do (we went by (iron jibe) and there were 6 or 7 on the beach and several farther out just chillin' in various ways. Great place for kids, barbeque, tubing, etc.
The Michigan city public beach (to the east) has buoys to show how close a boat can come.

To get that quality picture on my Iphone I use the HDR setting available right on the top front of the screen when in camera mode.dlandersson wrote:Ryan,

And another thing I was jealous of, between our various adventures/close calls/character building, Ryan's smartphone let him browse the the MC Children's Zoo to check the hours of operation. I would have to call information, call over to the zoo, etc., etc.,

Are you stayin docked at Hammond marina? That's where I will launch for my day sails or weekend stays. They have a beach just outside of the marina and part of it is known as "boaters beach" for anchoring right off shore.ualpow wrote:Looks like fun. The stuff flying to the ground was a bit wild! I felt bad that while I was at the helm all your stuff went flying!dlandersson wrote:The pictures don't show everything on the table dumped on the cabin floor as we heeled to 30 degrees.![]()

Re: Thanks for letting me join
Newest pics from Friday sail

This day started out really slow. Winds were really light. As we got further from shore it seemed that the wind had picked up some. We had seen many other sailboats out there. And a couple that were going in the same direction and even tacked around the same time and continued on the same course. On the way back David had taken over the helm and I was checking some messages on my phone. At that point I was starting to feel a little uneasy. Starting to get a headache and feeling blah. Has anyone experienced feeling blah when not focusing on your surroundings? Last time we went out I felt fine the whole trip. Anyone feel uneasy occasionally and other trips feel just fine?
