As I Age I will probably repower with a 9.9 and I will have to make an electric start decision at some point

I don't worry about the kids anymore since they now carry 80 pounds of concrete mix easily
Cat,
My Honda 8hp pulls very easy, (easier than my 6hp wood chipper). It starts on one pull 9 of 10 starts. I'll be 60 in December  I must say, I wouldn't want to have to pull it ten times in a row.
I was going to buy a new 9.8 Tohatsu w/electric start. Then when I retired (spelled fixed income  ) I decided to just try fixing the major oil leak in my Honda. It was the main seals and the area of the main shaft that they rode on was badly pitted. Cost was only around a hundred bucks, for a new shaft and seals. This is what led me to sandblasting all the casings and re-painting, since it was completely torn down anyway............. I digress.

You'll only be looking at a couple hundred bucks difference, between manual start and electric start in that hp range. Now, if you want power tilt too, it's 5 or 6 hundred more than the manual tilt, electric start.

Sumner,

Any differences or issues (launching) with the added rear bunk on your S trailer :?: I've often thought there's a lot of D-boat hanging off the back of my trailer. Have pondered doing this, while studying your web site

Ruth couldn't start the Honda 8, but I had no problems as you mentioned. If I remember right as easy as the 5 hp Nissan/Tohatsu. I have a feeling that the 9.8 Tohatsu might be a little harder since is has less hours on it and is probably a little 'tighter' than the '90 Honda.

We bought both Tohatsu motors from onlineoutboards.com and would buy from them again. Good prices and service/shipping.

I haven't notice any problems with the 3rd bunk launching or retreiving as it goes so deep in the water before the boat floats off. With the swing CB I did worry about it hanging up even though I try and remember to tie it before launching. I did...

...make a ramp for the CB so that if the board hung down a little that it would ride the ramp. You can see it in the picture above.

On the road the CB rides on....

We towed down to Florida with the laz full, the 19 gallon fuel tank full and both outboards on ...

...the stern of the boat along with the gen-set and solar panels. I feel better about having the third bunk back there with all of the weight there and in the rest of the boat. So far no problems and the trailer now tows and stops great,

Thanks Sum...

I used to use the kids as the gauge but since I watched them move concrete and 6x6 PT lumber I realize I'll be the weak link soon...if not already.... :|

Sum,
Thanks for the help. I may do this later. I have about two thirds of an old X trailer in the back yard. The bunks (cross members) are shot, but the main rails are in pretty good shape.

My D boat will let me know right away, if I try to put her on the trailer, before raising the dagger board

Once, I forgot to raise the rudder (modified/extended). Started to pull the boat up the ramp.... noticed her tilting slightly....stopped and went back to have a look. There she sat on the front bunk and the rudder tail. She was clearly four inches off the rear bunk. Couldn't back up without tearing out the transom or breaking the rudder (didn't want to find out which was tougher). I ended up working the ring dings out of the pintles with a pair of pliers and popped the rudder out.

Funny, even though it was a very rough concrete ramp. The rudder was barely damaged, just a little gel coat repair required.
fiberglass amazes me, over and over. :)

Anyway, guess I'm rambling on again :?
