I have a mac/venture25 1984 new to me.Is there a spacific rake to the mast and what is the best way to measure it? All the info i have found so far just says it should be perpendiculr to the hull.
Thanks Tom

Re: mast rake 84 venture 25
behr,
you have to search a little to find the correct rake angle. Most people think 3 to 5 degrees about right, but only sailing experience will tell you what works best for your boat. I don't know of any universal method for gauging the angle. I build for a living and believe I know what a right angle looks like, so I just stood a few yards to the side and said "yeah, that's about right". You could use a half-sheet of plywood very easily, assuming the deck is flat.
Don't forget the mast needs to be at right angles athwartships. In other words, your side stays need to be adusted to even length and tension.
Happy sailing,
