Re: Holy City Mac Roundup - Call For Boats

Post by fishheadbarandgrill »

Okay folks, Let's do some sailing in Charleston. Dates are centered around 13-14 October (Sat, Sun)

Please indicate your interest by posting your intentions here and by providing the following:
Boat
Captain
Length (in case we get a stray non-Mac)
Beam (in case we get a stray non-Mac)
Nights (at marina)- Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday

I will be working with the Charleston City Marina to secure a group of 20 for now and then post a close-out date for reservations.
If you intend to participate, please PM me with your email address and cell phone. I will publish a list to those participating via email.

The basic plan remains the same with a few exceptions so please take note below:

Launch and Recover
- Launch and recover suggested at Remleys Point Boat Ramp (operated by SC Dept of Natural Resources)
- There is a 72 hour limit for car and trailer parking at DNR boat ramps but with a Thursday arrival and Sunday departure, everyone should be within that window.
- You Tube link showing the ramp area. http://youtu.be/g4ymHrQqEV0
- Link to Remly Point description https://www.dnr.sc.gov/mlands/boatramp_details?p_id=340
- It’s about a 2.5nm transit from Remleys Point to the City Marina
- Bahama Bound has also offered a storage area on his property about 1.5 miles from the Limehouse bridge Boat Ramp, another SC Dept of Natural Resources ramp. LInk to the Limehouse ramp is https://www.dnr.sc.gov/mlands/boatramp_details?p_id=350. I'll let boaters contact him directly once I publish the list of boats.

Marina
- I will secure slips and see about a group rate at the Charleston City Marina. http://www.charlestoncitymarina.com/. Lynn and I have stayed there and they have great service, facilities, you can walk downtown or they have a shuttle bus.

Itinerary (this 4 day itinerary provides an opportunity for those that may want to see more of the city)
- Thursday -- Travel to Charleston, launch boat and transit to the City Marina
- Friday –- Travel to Charleston, launch boat and transit to the City Marina. For those arriving Thursday, open day to sail the harbor and/or explore downtown Charleston. Social and Captains meeting around 6pm at Salty Mikes at the City Marina where we can have a brief Captain’s meeting for Saturday then hang at the marina or head into town.
- Saturday –- Sailing day. Inner harbor, up the Wando River or out to sea through the jetties. We can anchor for lunch or pull in to Shem Creek (http://shemcreeksc.com/). The Town of Mount Pleasant just built a huge floating pier for day docking. Return to City Marina Saturday afternoon. Saturday night open for dinner in town, hang out at marina, etc.
- Sunday –- Recover and return travel. Or for those that may return on Monday, more sailing!

Vacation time set. We will most likely leave Thursday evening and stay in hotel in SC.

Anyone else?

I tried to PM everyone at once but there were too many recipiant so I'm posting here. Please confirm your plans to attend. Shoot me a PM and I will reply with my cell and email address. Give me a should if you have any questions. Randall (Bahama Bound), tried to call you today but no joy on your cell. Cptron (Ron) on Storm Walker, got your note on NCSail. Great that you will be joining. I'd like to work up a contact list with phones/emails so we can coordinate for a Friday hook up. My thoughts are still for us to be in the City Marina on Friday night. Storm Walker had an idea of staying on the hook Saturday night. That is certainly an option to consider. There are plenty of gunkholes to hide in. Wasn't sure if any of the Admirals would want to be pier side so they could "hit the town" Saturday night...

What a great time thanks to our hosts Bob and Lynn!

The weather was fantastic. If you missed this event you missed out!

We had great sailing and a great drinking/walking tour of historic Charleston; lead by Lynn and eventually Bob who veered the some of the drinking crew off course :)

When Bob sets up a spot we will post pictures.

A couple of unedited videos links below.

Fantastic time this weekend with Compromise, Storm Walker, Patricia Ann and KnotShore. Syzygy has been a lonesome Mac the past couple of years in her local waters so it was nice to have a weekend with new friends. We wanted to make our NCSail friends as welcome as they have us at the Cape Lookout Pirate Sail.

I know we had a "Mega" fun time. Pix and Links to some Vids (select HD in settings) below.

Is there a plan for a 2nd annual Charleston Mac Roundup? We are trying to decide where we are going to take our long trip to this year...starting to make plans. :)

I'd love to get down there if you can be burdened with a 25 classic and a slow, slow skipper'

Weather was perfect and windy. Fantastic sailing with reefed main.

Temps were cool and no bugs. Could not have been nicer.

Not sure what is required to attract more Macs to these events :?

Thanks to the Menches's wonderful hospitality we had another great trip to Chuck Town.
