MacX survived Sandy
My boat was right near all the worst places hit in NY during the hurricane - breezy point, long beach, etc. Luckily the steel in the floating docks held and they boats all sort of pushed neatly amongst each other. Also luckily one floating dock worked itself into the front of the marina - blocking anyone from floating out. There were a lot of happy captains today in a big jigsaw puzzle of docks and boats. I'm very sorry if you had a loss or damage. I'm posting this as a bright spot in all the terrible mess that has happened to us - many people are dealing with major losses of homes and even lives and certainly there is always another Mac you can buy.

Any word on the condition of Liberty Harbor on the Jersey side? We were just there in the summer in 100 degree heat.

Re: MacX survived Sandy
You are very lucky. A friend of mine had his power boat at Morgan marina near Raritan Bay NJ. It was up on land "safely" stored. He went to check on it yesterday. Couldn't find any trace of the boat. It was gone. He's thinking it may have blow to Staten Island. Maybe it sank. He doesn't know.
My dad is going down today to check on his boat (Hunter 35). It was about 25' from the edge of the bay on the hard. Normally, it sits about 4' higher than the bay high tide mark. Surges were much higher and it likely floated off the jack stands.
This boat is in the middle of the highway near where my dad's boat was stored.

I have another friend who lives here (first few seconds of video). Boats in his condo parking space.

This video shocked me. A new inlet to Barnegat bay. I used to go under that bridge every weekend. Now, there is a waterway directly to the Atlantic.

And of course the most surreal photo of Breezy Point I've seen.
A hundred homes burned to the ground.

Re: MacX survived Sandy
My 26M
made it through with only a few gouges in the gelcoat. I had it on the trailer at Cortlandt Yacht Club (about 35 miles north of NYC on the Hudson River). Storm surge lifted it, trailer and all, and bounced it around the other boats for a couple of hours. It came to rest against a large cabin cruiser's transom. I was lucky though - fiberglass is a relatively cheap and painless repair compared to the losses of others.
Best wishes to everyone else in the region.

That is how the Ocean City, Maryland inlet was formed in 1933 - by a big hurricane. The water in the back bay broke thru downtown in the middle of the night while everyone was in bed - where the inlet is nowRussMT wrote:This video shocked me. A new inlet to Barnegat bay. Just spoke with my dad. His 35 Hunter is in a pile of boats. He couldn't get near other than to see them all piled up.
New inlet in NJ. Like nature wiped all those pesky multimillion dollar homes out of the way for the new inlet. Didn't even apply for a permit. Used to take a while to get out to Manasquan inlet from Bayhead. Now a short run.

RUSS,
Sorry to hear about your Dads boat. I lived in SW florida past 22 years and went thru Charlie.
But I also was born n Cape Cod when Donna hit in 1960. We had to live in a school for 11 days , all 9 brothers and sisters.
We came back to 2 cottages in our back yard and water stains 6 ft. high in our living room. No support,no elect. and no help.
We survived .
Dave

Re: MacX survived Sandy
I saw some mess in Sheepshead Bay on the news - some of those nicer homes built right on the water had boats piled on them. In general many boats in seaside communities got up and left from their trailers.
I've been getting some emails from Fire Island. Ocean cut across there in 4 places. Many homes there destroyed but not as much news because people have mostly packed up for the season and nobody is able to get there to see what's going on.
No info on Liberty harbor.
