Re: Toronto Boat Show 2013
Welcome Silent Partner!
Last year the Admiral and I stayed one night in TO, but were obligated to continue on to Kingston and Ottawa after that, so we didn’t spend the time we would have liked at the show.
So this year we plan to be staying two nights instead, which should give us lots of time to relax and take in all the fine ambiance that the show and its attendees have to offer!
Glad you initiated this thread - now we can keep updated through it and meet up with the group at some point.
Volunteering in what capacity?
Regards- Brian.

Having never been to a boat show, does Toronto have a fair amount of sail related interest? I was thinking of going to Strictly Sail in Chicago next year, but Toronto is closer and the admiral has family there.

Re: Toronto Boat Show 2013 Jan 12-20 2013
I'd really like to go, but the timing is difficult. It's a 4 or 5 hour drive, so we'd have to hotel and make a stay of it. My wife will just be returning to work after a year of maternity leave and taking time off you first week back is a little awkward. I'm not sure I sell that trip enough as a family affair and road travels with a 3 year old and a 1 year old can be tough. Although, we did survive a trip to Quebec City this summer to visit HER friends, but that probably doesn't score me enough points for a Boat Show trip. In fact, I've probably spent those points already on some other boat-related thing!

I'm on the wrong side of the country for that show but I am really hoping to get to the Seattle Boat show on Jan 25.

Hi
Sorry about the tardiness. Rather new at this forum thing. Big learning curve this year.
Looking forward to hooking up with other Mac owners. I'm a student of Event Planning, so I make it a point to gain experience via volunteering. I haven't phoned them yet, but maybe the organizers could use me. Last year, I volunteered at the Salon des bateaux in Montreal.
Does anyone know of a cheap place to stay n Toronto?

Re: Toronto Boat Show 2013 Jan 12-20 2013
FYI for all - here’s the link to the show website…http://www.torontoboatshow.com/
Buy tickets online and save.
Silent Partner - Highlander is really not kidding! TO and cheap is an oxymoron.
The show website offers two hotels for the show special rate of $95/ night, which is a low rate for those hotels. Have stayed at both a few times, but the Westin Harbour Castle is right on the water, and is a bit closer to walk if you wanted to. Both offer free and regular shuttles to and from the show, so we take them and save our walking exercise for the show. Self parking at the Westin is $30/ day, but you can usually find cheaper parking that’s nearby. Don’t know what parking is at the Sheraton.
Other than those two, you will have to search the net to find cheaper, but I think you’ll find rates are high in the downtown, maybe less farther out, so good luck, hope to see you there.
- Brian.
ps. when you talk to them about volunteering, you might ask them if there are better rates anywhere for volunteers, they might have better arrangements. Also - it will look good on your resume if you make it, so that's worth something, too.

Re: Toronto Boat Show 2013 Jan 12-20 2013
Thanks Brian for the heads up
$95 is still too much for a student, with no job and no car, so I will definitely take your advice about asking the volunteer coordinator.
If there is a Toronto Mac owner out there, who could me up for the week, I could reciprocate for the Montreal show. (Mostly power boats.) I live off the island and have an in-law suite that I'm renovating.
