Re: Finally, Finally and Finally I got my mac26m!
West Coast - Is that the Strait of Juan de fu@? I have crossed that in a ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria. It looked really windy and for real brave sailors. I liked that place - it was really nice. The really nice ferry was the one that I was on to a place called horseshoe bay? i think? that boat was really BIG! Lots of snow and verry nice.
How warm is 20 to 30 c? Is that warm?

Re: Finally, Finally and Finally I got my mac26m!
Sailing lessons are a good idea (lots of good sailing schools in Mtl) to get the basics down and then just start sailing when the wind and conditions are favourable. Each trip will add to your experience and knowledge base and take advantage of all the great advice here on this forum. I learned a lot from this site as well as meeting a couple of local Mac sailers (thanks Rob, Eric!) but am still learning every day.
Sailing from centre-ville eh! Watch the current as it is very strong, especially as you near the Jacques Cartier bridge.
Enjoy and hope to catch up with you at some point this summer!

Re: Finally, Finally and Finally I got my mac26m!
I learned my first lesson well before I attempted to sail. I brought my M from Wisconsin to Ohio and asked an experienced power-boater to help me launch the boat and drive it to my dock (I never operated a boat before). The person I asked to help me had never seen a Mac before. So we launched the boat off the ramp with both rudders and dagger board up (the way they came from Wisconsin). Powering down the river was fine, but most of you can imagine what happened when we attempted to dock…canmac27 wrote:Sailing lessons are a good idea (lots of good sailing schools in Mtl) to get the basics down and then just start sailing when the wind and conditions are favourable.
This boat is different from conventional power and sail boats. Try to learn as much as you can before you launch it and pay attention to details. Best luck to you and have fun!

Yeah sorry - forgot to convert it. That would be between 68 and 86 Fahrenheit. How warm is 20 to 30 c? Is that warm?
I agree that lessons would probably be a good thing. I'll take some at some point. I read alot and have learned by a trial and error...lots of error, but the basics are pretty easy, and as long as you stay safe, all is good.

Talking about the owners manual. I know this might sound crazy, but I read 3 times downloaded from the factory website BEFORE I even bought the boat. Maybe I'm becoming a little fanatic about boating?![]()
I reckon we all did. I'm still a bit fanatic about it..... Happy Sailing.
There is SO much you can do with it to make it your own special haven, and its roomy enough to share

Ok, OK Macgregor family !
I read EVERY single one of your posts, even my yukon friend in the stratosfer!
I'm a little bit in shock and awe here. I've never twited (I don't neven know if that is spelled right) Facebook or whatever other forum is out there. This is the only one I have ever posted, so I'm kind of shocked to see 19 replies??? I really thought I would not get any replies to my post. Thank you all for your kind and encouraging words! If you all only knew that I worked 2 jobs for last two years, yes 12-14 hour days to be able to afford a Mac, even used. Anyways you all know what I'm I talking about, you all pretty much made some sacrifices to get your Mac. Unless your last name ends with Gates.
50 years old, 2 young men 20 & 25 (kids though, not like the old days) married 27 years, time for me to make time for myself. I don't know if that makes any sense?
Anyways, it is -10 celcius today, 14 Farenheit. Another 8 inches of snow fell today!
Spring, Spring Where are you????? I"m dying here.
I think since I bought this MAc I'm no longer normal. This is all I think about. I hope I don't mess this up my first day out. Actually maybe I'll be so happy I won't come back to land.
I'm I ok?

Yeah. Double the C and add 30 to get F. (Approx)20° to 30°C is roughly 72°-92°F

Hey John! That a pretty straight line you cut in the snow there; very impressive navigation skills!
A drift "cutter" even in the winter hey?
I would conclude that, contrary to the photo evidence, you must have had the scotch AFTER you did the driveway???

Yea, our first sail boat was a used 1978 Mac./Venture 22. Once I found the Mac 26 website I was hooked. I would watch the hour video each day for months and months until finally I got my 26M.u12fly wrote:YupJohnCFI wrote:So did I before I got mypleal wrote:{snip...}

Yeah that video got my through the 2 weeks waiting for my M delivery that turned into 2 months. I think thats the same time I found this site too.
To the new guy... Welcome, good job! You wont wreck her! and beaching is not wrecking...
Just take your time. If you will be trailoring, go later in the day if a public ramp. Camping is one of my favorite parts of sailing
