Center board question

Hey all,
I bought the 08' used so I'm not sure what normal is for the center board and the line that controls it. When I pull it up the line that stops it from going to far down (falling out?) bunches up and I'm always surprised it doesn't get caught between the center board and its housing. The line that controls the center board has knot in it and a S.S. washer to stop it from lowering to far. I tried pulling on the slack in the housing when the board was up to see if, as I thought, the line went through the center board and ran through it, but it doesn't move at all. So then I was wondering how he line was installed in the board. Any diagrams out there? Should the line run through the center board?

Next time I'll read through before posting. When I read my earlier post it didn't really convey what I was trying to say. One end of the center board line terminates near the bottom of the mast and that's the one that is bunching up in the center board housing when the board is in the up position. When the board is down the knot at the end of the control line is up against the cam cleat so that when I go to raise the board I have to reach over the cleat and pull the line to get it started rising before I have any slack to work with in the cockpit. I'm thinking the line is suppose to run through the center board, but mine doesn't. Can some one explain the rigging of this line and how it runs (or doesn't) through the center board and if it should run freely through the center board, what could be stopping it? I had the board up and tugged on both ends of the line, which looks like it runs in a "U" bend through the center board and neither end would budge. Help!

Not to be pickey but you have a daggerboard not a centerboard on the M Model. The line that raises and lowers it is fixed to the top of the board by a knot, tied by accessing the side of the board through a large hole on the side. This is the same for the other line that prevents the board from dropping out the bottom. Sounds like your lifting line is too short. Remove the D.board and replace the it with one of the length you prefer.

Yes to the above, and they are not the same line...if that is what you're also getting at? And yes the back up line (short one with the knot in it) does tend to bind when raising from time to time.
