You need to fit the prop to the outboard so I don't think you are going to get a Honda prop to fit on a Tohatsu for instance so what some of us are using probably won't work unless you have the same outboard.

Here are the props for the Nissan/Tohatsu/Mercs (all made by Tohatsu)...

I have a 2000 Johnson 9.9 2 stroke. I'm going to check rpm at wot with the 10 pitch I have before ordering, but I think from what I've read here and elsewhere a 7" pitch is what I'm probably going to need.
I may not necessarily get a "high thrust" prop, but just a round eared prop with no rake. From my powerboat experience prop rake is to aid in bow lift. I've noticed cabin cruisers and other heavy boats running i/o's and out boards tend to have round eared props with a lot less rake.

Our 25 came with an 86 Johnson 8 hp sailmaster, and I've gone through quite a bit trying to get it to run correctly. After changing the water pump, tearing down and cleaning the carb thoroughly and repeatedly and changing parts, and cleaning the mud dauber nests out of the exhaust, I could get it to run on the main jet (throttled partially up), but couldn't get it to run on just the idle circuit and could never get it to where it would run past half throttle without pulling the primer halfway out. I finally gathered up enough sense to check the compression, and found it to be even at 110-115 but also found water on the lower cylinder plug. I then ordered a head gasket, but when I tore it down, couldn't see where it was leaking. After reassembly, it ran exactly the same, so I pulled the exhaust cover and baffle, and now know the water was entering there. I've ordered the gasket set for, as I think it's an awesome little motor and just can't stand to not ultimately put it back into service.

Despite all that, I finally realized that our boat is not being used while I spend precious weekends working on an infernal combustion engine, and now the spring has almost slipped away. I ordered a Nissan 9.8 with electric start, 25" shaft in Monday, and am curious after reading all this to know: should I be ordering a different prop for also, or will the stock prop be ok?

Incidentally, I did have an old Johnson 9.9 with a 15" shaft sitting around, and have found that it works fine for our relatively flat-water lake. The motor mount drops down far enough that there's plenty in the water, but the lack of a friction lock on throttle and steering is kind of a drag.

1996 26X with a Tohtasu 8 HP. Original prop has 7.5 stamped into it. I have never be happy
with the engines ability to reverse for controlled docking. Usually come in very slow. I went ahead(because of this thread) and purchased the 8.7 dia 5 pitch 4- blade prop (3B2W645110).
Will update upon installation.

I just realized you have Eagle Mountan lake. I race over there some times. Did you participate in the Leukemia cup two weeks ago? I was over there helping Wings a 26d as a bow man.

The extra long shaft Tohatsu and Nissan both come with the 8.7" Dia. X 5.0" Pitch 4-Blade (High Thrust). That is what we got and I took it off and kept it as a spare. I'm running the 8.7" Dia. X 7.0" Pitch 4-Blade. It is also high thrust and comes stock on the long shaft outboards. I felt the stock prop might actually be more high thrust than we need with our boats weight. I didn't try it but wanted two props and the mounting hardware anyway "just in case" so decided to try the 7 pitch prop. It works well, but the 5 pitch might also work well. If you don't want a second backup prop try the one that came with it and see how you like it.

Personally I think that matching the prop to WOT is more of a deal for a boat that can get on plan and our S can't so I'm more interested in how it works at low RPM settings in current and wind while docking and anchoring.

Wondering why you decided on the Nissan over the Tohatsu since they are the same and the Tohatsu is about $80 less at Onlineoutboards,

Grady,

Very cool to have a neighbor! We're both too new to have any involvement in racing. The boat has been quite a project and although we have her in the water now, owing to the motor challenges and being out of town a lot, we have yet to raise the sails. We have ventured out of the marina (West Bay) once under the power of the short shaft 9.9, but didn't go far. It was a choppy day and we didn't have much time before dark. We're hoping in the weeks to come to ger her out more and get our experience level up. Really looking forward to the new motor arriving and having some time on the water.

I'm very fortunate to work for a company where I can get some good deals on some boating things, and this was one where we could on the Nissan but Tohatsu not offered. Really appreciate all the advice and how great everyone is about answering questions and taking the time to record their experiences. Your thoughts on prop and motor and the links were super helpful. I'll let everyone know how things go with the stock prop once the motor arrives and is on. I'll need to run starter cables and such to enjoy the electric start piece, but will probably try the motor out and get into break-in right away with just the pull start.

That is a very good reason :) . You will love the outboard, we do ours.

Not sure if you saw it but I extended some of the controls on ours so that Ruth could reach them better a ways down this page....

Not sure if any of that would help on a 25 or not,

I found this calculator that seems to make sense with my current motor... http://www.vicprop.com/displacement_size.php
