Re: Best Bulkhead Compass?
A cheap compass might only have a single degree of adjustment, but I think decent kit will have several places to set it right..my dealer installed compass (port bulkhead) had at least 4 adjusters I remember..

Fortunately I have a pair of big brass balls. Got them from the Navy. They're kind of antique now but they still do the job.

Yeah! That's the ones! Have not you all seen those on either side of the big gimbaled compass on the big ships?? Like mastreb says: They may be antiques but they still work!

Re: Best Bulkhead Compass?
I have the cheap 4inch compass (one adjustment for deviation)and probably was installed new and glass is clouded. Need to get to auto store and get the clear lens kit.
I navigate tru Charts on my Iphone or GPS.
I hardly ever use the bulkhead compass but nice to have as a backup, just adjust the deviation from boats magnetic field.
Mine is installed Port side Bulkhead with a 4 inch access panel inside boat.
Down here in SW florida it's eye ball Navigation and up North with heavy Fog GPS will pinpoint your location and if this fails than your dead reconing should work if yo plotted your course and made notes along the way.
