Great Couple of Days on the Water
Hi every one,
We had a couple of days on the water, and it we just great. It started out on Thursday afternoon, we didn't get to the Tin Can Bay boat ramp until about 4 pm and got into the water just on dark so we made our way to outside Snapper Creek Harbour at Norman Pt on the S/E side a bit open to the southerly winds but not that unpleasant.
Then on Friday morning we set off up Tin Can Bay inlet towards the southern end off Fraser Island winds calm only using the genoa at about 4 knots. We didn't wont to rush, just a relaxing. We anchored up at Teebar Creek Friday night with only two house boats, it can get a bit crowded on peak times very popular anchorage. Set the crab pot out off the stern in hope to catch a feed.
Saturday much the same as Friday, until we nearly got hit by a house boat trying to moor up to one of the permanent moorings, and we were a fair distance away from them. Mid afternoon we set off back to the ramp and home, Sunday cleaning day.
But in all just a great feeling to be out on the water. There are some photo's I hope I've linked them right, there are 14 pic's to see.

Hey fresh, lucky you, the weather has been perfect, i'm jealous, good pics too. Did you see any wildlife? Dolphin or two, dugong perhaps? Did you end up with any crabs? Cheers, Dennis.

Re: Great Couple of Days on the Water
Hi Dennis,
Yes we did see "Mystic" the dolphin that visit's the ramp at Tin Can Bay but we saw her at Teebar Creek, it's not the first time we've seen Mystic away from the ramp, she has visited us before in the last boat we had. We did get three crabs but all under size so back they went
, but we got a good feed of whiting though and of cause our first mate (the cat) just love them to, every time we hooked one he was there supervising how to get it on board. Kuairi Creek (the next creek north) is better for crabs, last time we where there about a month ago we got one muddy and two sandies all good size. I am glad the photo's look good it took me awhile to figure it out how to post them
Today we had withdrawalls wanting to be back out on the water.
Cheers

Hi Cruiser,
We had two camera's working (his & hers) one we got from Aldi "Traveler DE 8900" and the other we got from Officeworks a "Fujifilm finepix JV 16", both with zoom lens. Very user friendly. They were not that expensive, both around $90.
Cheers

Re: Great Couple of Days on the Water
Gee, that's amazing quality for the price! I purchased a Cannon S100 a year or so back and thought I had a great camera for the money - but still it was closer to $400 at the time. The Cannon does great macro shots but would not match your landscape shots. The Cannon also does fantastic videos (the sound is particularly good) for anyone interested in cameras. Sorry to get off topic guys.Fresh Breeze wrote:Hi Cruiser,

Re: Great Couple of Days on the Water
Well after some discussion we will be replacing the esky with a 12 volt fridge/freezer, and a solar panel to maintain the house battery, would have like a wind generator, but we already have a portable solar panel.
Also the porta loo is going, don't know yet what we are going to replace it with, but the captain said it has to go

So it's already out of the boat.
Cheers

Re: Great Couple of Days on the Water
Hi Fresh, my boat came with the dometic 35 liter pressure flush ceramic head, I doubt it would fit in an
as the head on the
is larger (taller) from what I can tell, it is a really good toilet with a 12V flush system, I couldnt recommend it high enough, except for one small problem, emptying it...... It requires a port with suction unit, these may be popular in the States but here they are few and far between. I am looking at options to modify it with a macerating pump so it can either be emptied at sea or emptied in to the local sewer line at home, I havnt quite figured out where all that plumbing will go yet or what pump to use so in the mean time we use a porta potti borrowed from our camping gear.
Re: Great Couple of Days on the Water
After investigating the pump out stations in the waters we intend to sail......few and far between was the general result...went with an "Airhead" compost toilet...not bad...(certainly better than a portapotti...cant sleep with smell...of the chemicals mostly...reminds me of emptying)
We also run a 12v fridge freezer and also have a small waeco we use as a freezer initially and turn it off as the supplies run down and electrickier runs down too!! still find refrigeration very power hungry (got 180watt solar and big batteries)...not enough solar if conditions adverse for longer periods. All other 12v loads are intermittent and not that high...music,tv/dvd/computer,GPS/chartplotter,autopilot and lighting and in summer fans/evaporative aircon

Re: Great Couple of Days on the Water
Thanks Dennis for the feed back on flush heads, still researching, at the moment looking at composting heads.
As for the cooling system we purchased a 60lt TechniIce fridge/freezer, and on Saturday Aldi have a power inverter 600 watt for $59, will go and have a look at it before buying to see if it is compatible with our solar panel.
Bartmac, your right there are not many places to pump out in our neck of the woods, not to mention further north when we do venture up around Bundy and 1770 which has no mariner. So we shall do lots of research before any buying.
once again thanks
Cheers All
