Out today...marveling at myself...heard a"'tink" (the nut holding the boom to the mast had vibrated loose) and the bolt vibrated out and "clunk" the mast fell to the cabin roof. Surprusingly, Soggy paws continued to sail very nicely. I watched (seemed like slow motion) as the bolt (we were at 15 degrees) rolled off the cabin rook, hit the water and promptly sank in 60 feet of water. Ooops.
Found an extra eye bolt, lifted the boom back in place and slid it thru - it JUST fit. Put on the nut and continued to sail.
Nice recovery Mac-Gyver! I like your "too short" video to. I see your view of the land is just as pretty as ours. We're just missing the cooling tower. I am on vacation through Sept 8th and plan on getting out as much as possible. We should try to plan a meet halfway or I can give you a ride to your boat in Michigan City...Although your car would be in Hammond then...
I suspect your view of the Chicago skyline is nicer than ours.

I keep a "rig box" of all the nuts and bolts that have been replaced on the boat with different pins, everything I bought that didn't wind up going on, etc. in a clear plastic food container for just such occasions. To date, it's always had something in it that would do the job.
Yeah, mine is a cloth shopping bag. I was REALLY happy that I had something that worked.
