How can I remove rubbing compound from non-skid?

Post by drams_1999 »

Good morning Capn's,

Pan-Pan, Pan-Pan, Pan-Pan

I made a terrible mistake this weekend I hope people here have made before....

I finally got arount to polishing my "racoon stripes" and got them nice and shiny again, like they were when she was new.

Unfortunately, I got some polish on adjacent non-skid surfaces....the result: black nonskid that looks gray, and white non-skid that looks gray, surrounding shiny black racoon stripes.

I tried water, scrubbing, buffing with a clean pad,....nothing seems to work.

How can I get the black non-skid black again? How can I get the white non-skid white again?

Help!

Thanks folks......

When I polished mine, I got some compound caught in the cross-hatching non-skid. I used a dry medium bristle palm brush(common for dish washing) and just brushed with the hatching on the non-skid. Most of it came out that way, the I did the same thing with an old t-shirt under the brush and it polished up nicely.

Good luck,

Aaron

Scrub with a bit of acetone on a toothbrush to remove the discolouration. Then use a liquid wax to rebuff.

Thanks for the advice gents!

I was able to get a stiff scrubbing brush used for dishwashing, and it worked like a charm!

The pressure washer was going to be my next attempt, (I needed to borrow one), I'm pretty sure it would have worked too, (if done carefully!)

Fair winds....
