Props to Pier 32 Marina in National City (San Diego Bay)

I have to give props to Pier 32 Marina in National City, which is right off the I-5 on San Diego Bay in the Sweetwater channel. It's brand new (built 2008) and the classiest marina I've ever been to in terms of facilities. Swimming pool, hot tub, gym, rentable apartment, and the Bar & Grill is great.

It's one of only two places in San Diego where you can store a sailboat on trailer mast-up. The other place is a dirt lot on Shelter Island that is operated like a junkyard (owned by a dinghy dealership) and you have to put into Shelter Island's launch ramp, which is probably the worst ramp on the west coast. It's the same price as Pier 32.

At Pier 32, you get full marina privileges as a trailer storage sailor including use of all the the facilities, no different than paying for a slip. For about $200/mo. You can put into the water right next door at Pepper Park public ramp (literally less than 50' away). Pier 32 provides free slips for up to four days at no cost for trailer storage sailors, and this week they've extended us to 10 days in a slip at no additional cost--we didn't even ask, they just said "Hey keep it in the water another week if you want". Everyone we've dealt with has just been phenomenal.

It's been such a huge improvement to our sailing experience to be able to stay mast-up and to be able to put in for days at a time. Prior to this, we used the dirt-lot and the public docks at Shelter Island, but the docks suddenly jumped from $10/day to $26/day which makes a week in the water there cost twice as much as a month at Pier 32.

I have no desire to remain slipped full time because the bottom growth here is outrageous, so Pier 32 fits us perfectly. If you're in the San Diego area and searching for the right solution for a Mac, Join the other four Macs in Mast-up at Pier 32.

I like this Pier 32. I'm going to take a trip down there and have a look, next week.

Can you rent trailer/boat space month to month Thought I might like to park "Three Sheets" down there next summer for a couple months....... or more, perhaps. Not much sailing up here on the high desert......... And now that most of the home improvements are done around here, I might have some time to actually do some more sailing, next year
