thanks for that, yes, yahoo is awful. How far are you from Richmond? How do you post pics on here? I guess I will try to get a hold of buzz again and see if there are any scraps. I am kinda of starting from the ground up. If you have a chance, do you think you could post a close up of the traveler and the aft end of the boom? much appreciated. dull in dc.

Re: I'm back...Bimini top and many upgrades
I am 2 hours give or take from Richmond...not far at all....
I can post a pic of the traveler later this morning when it gets lighter out. I don't use it on the venture.
A pic of the aft of the boom? Which one? My lake setup or the real boom that came with the VN23?
Dave

Dave.. You need to join my " I have too many boats" support group
We meet on high tide day on an island. You'll figure out transportation.

Re: I'm back...Bimini top and many upgrades
I'm ok. "I can quit anytime"
Actually responded to a recent ad on CL for a 27 foot boat, full keel, for cheap.
Another Crackboat.
He wants $1200 for it, and says you can make more by recycling the lead.
I emailed him, advised he had about 150 more lbs than we just scrapped last week at .31 cents a lb
I also advised him you have to CUT the lead out....you can not just drive on down with a complete boat
He also states the custom gooseneck Trailer does not come with it.
I offered him $50....
I never heard back....I just checked to snag the photo to post here and the ad is gone now. Either he found a sucker, or just stopped wasting his time
Had a lot of good gear on it looked like.

I still think Cat has you beat. It's not hoarding, but you may need a 12 step program.81venture wrote: How much more before I become a hoarder?

Re: I'm back...Bimini top and many upgrades
Not now...Still have to sell the O'day
And when I get back from New Orleans this weekend more work on the VN23
The Free one is appealing, but fixed keel and 4 hour drive not going to happen
a 26x is on the list after the spawn graduates high school and hits college...about 3-4 years
Off to Voodo Fest in the French Quarter for the weekend with the admiral and the spawn
Cheers
Dave

Re: I'm back...Bimini top and many upgrades
Well I think it's a done deal
Had a fellow come up Sunday and looked at the O'day. Said he loves it and will take it. He is coming tomorrow afternoon to pay and take it out of here
Sold it for $3800
So after principle and splitting the profits with my other two investors I clear a PROFIT of $1250 cash
And still have the new lake mast for mine, Bimini top, Yamaha 4 stroke motor and other goodies, some to keep some to sell
I also still have the mast and rigging as well as the bow pulpit and lifeline system from the crackboat to sell
Not to shabby starting with a $400 little boat
Cheers Mates

Re: I'm back...Bimini top and many upgrades
I would have kept that O'Day. Also, I bet you could have got more for it. But then again, cash in hand.
Sounds like you are turning a hobby into a business. Maybe an addiction.

Re: I'm back...Bimini top and many upgrades
No O'Day for us right now.
It was too big, too heavy.
We go to our local lake too much and the O'day was worthless for that.
Later on I want a bigger boat than that anyway..
The VN23 is perfect for us, and we really love it. And I have done a lot of work to it, and more upgrades coming.
This is a hobby for me...I'm already looking for the next one, may or may not be sail...who knows.
Curious, what do you think I could have gotten? I surveyed it, and also ganked the "good" motor.
We wanted $4k, but took $3800 which after split was $1250 cash profit, a new "lake" mast, another motor, a bimini top, more winches, tons of gear, enough 2 stroke oil (in the crack boat, new bottles) to run for 3 seasons, and a big mast and lifelines etc to sell for cash, and the list goes on
And I don't have to look at it anymore and can get back to work on the VN23....I'm thinking flatscreen and surround sound

Re: I'm back...Bimini top and many upgrades
Well It's all done!
I sold the O'day...and all the other boats my friends had me sell
the yard is empty except for the VN23.
I did much deliberation about the Yamaha 9.9 and also some research
Seems my 8hp Tohatsu just needs a charge coil and a rectifier and It will charge batteries while running. So rather than put the the added weight of the 4 stroke I will keep the tohatsu and add the charging circuit. I am fine with manual start on it as its so easy and runs/starts so well....even in an emergency the admiral can pull start it.
I have already ordered the parts for about $150...it states you should have the work done by a "qualified" mechanic as you have to pull the flywheel. oooohhh (sarcasm..I am an outboard mech remember)
If anyone is looking for a beast of a motor let me know. the Yamaha is in excellent shape, and was serviced in 2013 to the tune of $230 and is ready to go
a bit big for a VN23 if you ask me but it will work on other boats, or a beefier Mount maybe...My VN23 came with a 15hp evinrude probably weighed more come to think of it...but it was also on the original motor mount, which i changed to a different one
...just pm me. I put it on CL but would give any of you mates first dibs
I'd like to get $800 but any member I would take $650
Working on the VN23 for the winter, and will post updates here, but think I am done buying and selling sailboats for the season
but you never know when that next big deal will come up
Cheers mates
