I have the Ford 3.5 Ecoboost. What are your HP and torque ratings? How flat is your torque curve (pretty flat on the Ecoboost due to the dual turbos).

You guys are still living in the past if your still practicing break in witchcraft. No vehicle sold today requires any type of break-in procedure. Current machine technology and material alloys have eliminated excess and out of round tolerances. But I guess its an excuse to hotrod around the countryside.

My torque curve maxes at 2000 RPM and starts to drop from there. However being a diesel with an 8 speed transmission I am cruising at 70 MPH at 1800 rpms. So how would all this match up with your Ford Ecoboost I can only speculate by the seat of my pants. The seat of my pants tells me 0-40 MPH I would beat you; 0-60 MPH you might beat me. Now my vehicle is a crewcab and I literally was not allowed to add any more of the options I wanted because of curb weight from the factory federal laws. So if you and I were to go say to a waste management point and use their scales to equal out our combined vehicle and mac weight one can only speculate what would happen. Hey did you know you live 51 Miles away from me :?: :wink: :wink:

Saw on Motorweek sunday morning that the ram 1500 with 3.0 ecodiesel won their 2014 vehicle of the year award, also won it last year with the v-6 gas engine. Disappointing to hear that your still turning 1800rpms at 70mph, I expected that new 8 speed to do much better with those 420 pounds of torque. Walmart now stocks the urea fluid for like 10 dollars for 2-3 gallons if your looking for a good source..

Yep leave it to Jeepster in me to order the 3:92 diff gears for towing and wishful but will never do with this luxury truck Rockcrawling, and not the 3:21 or 3:55 gears for even lower highway driving RPMs.

Well here is the rundown so far from the Eco-Diesel. I picked it up one week before my big trip to Minnesota, Oklahoma, and back to Maryland. Before I left the first week was city driving only and I got 18-20 MPG. It varied depending whether I was breaking it in or as some here have called it here needless hot-rodding (like that is a bad thing) 8) . The leg to Minnesota I got 24 MPG. Towing a bass tracker boat and the truck full of camping gear I got 20 MPG. This could have been higher but I had to utilizing numerous boat ramps trying to find a lake where the fish were biting in very crappy weather :x . Trip to Oklahoma I got 25 MPG. The trip back to Maryland I picked up my granddaughter and her possessions to come live with my wife and I and got 24.8 MPG. While I was gone my tonneau cover came in so I did not have it for the trip.

This 4X4 Crew Cab Ram Truck I have is advertised to get 27 MPG Highway and 19 City with 22 combined. I am getting the city MPG and combined MPG. I suspect with the tonneau cover installed and not setting the cruise control at 79 MPH I would be able to get that 27 MPG. Note on setting the cruise control at 79 MPH it never moved from that speed going up and down the Appalachian Mountains. I did not feel any shift; I only felt the gravity pushing me in my seat going up and seatbelt going down. The Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is advertised to last 10,000 miles however either this is wishful thinking or its my driving I have 4500 miles on my truck right now and my DEF tank is at 1/4.

You are not going to get 27 MPG at 80 MPH, period...

realy interested about that truck
on the long term diesel have a lot of avantages, gas is good for the dealer to make money.
I prefer to put my money on my :macm: :)
what is your realistic consumptions witch and without the boat. :?:
do you have a lot of power :?:

I stated my realistic consumption without towing my :macx: Every single week day I drive the 12 miles to the metro station to and from in Washington DC traffic. My 6000lb 4x4 Crewcab truck gets 18-19 MPG every single trip in that traffic. I have never been known to take it easy on any type of machinery, hull I would burn rubber on my lawnmower if I could, wait a minute I do going up the slippery ramp to the shed :D . On my long trip to Minnesota and Oklahoma and back to Maryland I averaged 24 MPG total with as high as 25.6 MPG. The last time I had a 6000lb or more truck was when I owned a 1977 Dodge Powerwagon with a 440 engine that I highly modified to get more power by making it more efficient and I still only went from 8 MPG before modification to 11 MPG after. This truck with this 3.0L Diesel is a real game changer and I am absolutely amazed on every trip. What I will get towing my :macx: on a long trip I don’t know yet and probable wont until Pirate Sail and will let you know then.

Now the price of Diesel it pays to shop around. In Waldorf Maryland using my 10C off safeway discount at an Exon station I am paying $3.59 a gallon. While in my liberal knucklehead town (Fort Washington) and county (Prince George) it is $4.10 a gallon. With the great MPG I am getting I don’t mind visiting my daughter 30 mile away in Waldorf. Also you will find Diesel does not go up every time gas does and does not fluctuate as much period. Diesel around here is usually cheaper then premium gas and just slightly more than regular unleaded.

As for power from 0-40 MPH it is dang near instantaneous after that the torque curve falls of dramatically. So for towing from a stop it is excellent. If you want to pass someone on a two lane rode at speeds above 60 MPH while towing make sure you have a lot of room, the torque which equates to acceleration is not there. However what ever speed it is at and the cruise control is on it holds it regardless of terrain and you don’t feel any shifting.

Ok people for those of you that wanted real world numbers here you go. At 79 MPH towing a fully loaded truck bed of wood and gear along with a highly modified :macx: on a two axle trailer I got 14.6 MPG. At 64 MPH I got 16 MPG.

Seriously.... fully loaded and then towing a boat at 79-80mph, glad I don't have to drive near you on the freeway..

No I will never text while driving and for that matter I hardly ever text period. I did do those speeds though in the rain on the way down and a 1/3 of it in the dark on the way back if that makes you feel any better :evil: :P .

I drive the I-95 corridor often. The reality is that those speeds are the norm no matter if it's a motor home, travel trailer, contractors vehicle or what have you. I traded an almost new small car for something a bit larger that could comfortably drive 75 after my first trip to New England with it.
And people drive those speeds while almost on top of each other. Surprised we don't see more of those multicar pile ups then we do.

On a trip right now with my dodge 3500 Cummins 4x4 bone stock getting 16 pulling my mac and around 13.5-14 pulling my 12k lb. 5th wheel .i tell ya its nice to have a truck that you feel safe towing .wish I had my 2500 longbed 2 wheel drive it got like 18mpg pulling my mac.dont like the dually as much !
