new 26s trolling options
Hi, I just purchased a 94 26s and am in the market for a trolling motor. The low HP long shafts are in short supply on the used market so I was osnidering 2 30 lbs thrust election motors but I've heard mixed opinions online about their ability to motivate a boat this size. The motor is strictly for getting the boat on and off the trailer. If i do have to go gas what size and length would you guys recomend? Thanks!

Re: new 26s trolling options
Just fyi,
I have never used the motor to get my 26D on or off the trailer. Just float her off and on with a couple dock lines.
Of course, you may not have a launch ramp dock
I have rope launched without a ramp dock once. Just attached a 50 foot rope to the bow, floated her off the trailer, walked over to a nearby sandy beach and pulled her in.
Best prices I've ever seen were here:

free shipping
I would go 5hp minimum and as big as 9.8.
I would get the extra long shaft in any of these models, if you are mounting it in the original engine well. My Honda eight HP is 20 inch shaft and will break surface in high waves.
If you want electric only, these are the bomb......... but pricey:

I really like the idea of an electric outboard, because they are silent. I really don't like the noise of an outboard. But I guess that may be why my 25 year old Honda runs like it's new. It's had little use.
In a perfect world, I would have a small electric inboard, down in the bottom of the Laz, on the centerline with the prop just in front of the rudder. The way the Ds and Ss are designed, they just beg for a setup like this.
Best Breezes,

Re: new 26s trolling options
I have moved my 26S around with a 55 lbs thrust trolling motor. I even went 2 miles with it once. But it was with no wind. With the amount of free board on the boat as soon as there is any wind I had no control of the boat and would have to start up the gas motor because I had little to no control. It just did not have the power to overcome the wind. If you launch in a very protected area you may be able to get away with it most of the time.

Oh c'mon!
Everyone knows the 25's and 22's are better than any of 26's, and that the X's are better than the M's!
Oh wait....wrong kind of trolling.....

You left out the white hull/blue hull controversy.

Okay, just for the record, we all know and recognize that every boat Roger MacGregor engineered was inferior to its predecessor. He engineered the perfect boat in the mid 60's, and has been back peddling since then. No need to rehash.
The color thing is entirely different. Where are my black hulls?
