kmclemore I like your filling setup, I may incorporate that too. For now I am just using a garden hose and filling them up to the bottom of the upper opening and have the valves cracked a bit to allow air to enter. I have been reading up on your fuel tank setup and considering it as well.

Re: New boat and bunch of new mods
Hey Seapup,
How did you secure the floor to the cockpit? It looks like it is in sections. How well does it stay together or stable when sailing/heeling?
Great job on all those mods...you've definately been busy!!

Hi Shanker,

The floor should show up a little better in these pics. We have not sailed with it yet but it seems to be very secure. There are no screws going into the actual boat. It is locked around the pedestal as 1 piece and its size/shape keeps it from moving. It unbolts back to two pieces for removing and cleaning underneath. It was a little bit of work fitting everything, but came out nice and tight. It was the mod I was looking forward to most so saved it until the end to keep myself motivated.
The total supplies for it were six 1"x6"x8', one 2"x8"x8', and 1lb stainless 1-5/8" deck screws. So pretty minimal. Basically I ripped 5 boards down to 1.75 wide pieces and routed the edges with a .5 radius to make the strips. The front piece fits between the pedestal and cabin. Underneath it I have two 2.5" wide boards that run perpendicular to the flooring holding everything together and a 5" wide joist piece that is half under the front and half under the back decking. All the screws on the front half are run from underneath and hidden. I could not hide them in the back and had to go from above. The strips are all spaced 1/4" apart. The rear also uses two joists resting on the cockpit floor, and 2 joists in the back. To keep everything level in front of the steering linkage is a 2x8 ripped to 7-1/8" if I remember correct and in the back I basically built a box 7-3'8" tall in each corner cutting away where the steering needs to run. It all fits tightly in place and the two halves are screwed together locked in by the pedestal. To remove it both pieces lift up and out when you take out the screws holding the back half to the front. Next up is taking it back out and staining and sealing it.
I also removed the helm seat to open everything up, the cockpit seems much larger now. Not sure if I will modify the old one, build a new one, or just go without. I have seen a lot of good ideas on here. We are going to take it out his afternoon so should get a better feel for it.

I also started making a fair weather plexi door for the cabin out of some extra I had from another project, I need to order one more piece for the bottom yet. We used this last weekend and it was nice to be able to look out while on anchor and quickly see where you are at.

Re: New boat and bunch of new mods
Love the work you did to this boat. We have friends/family in Va. Beach, can I swing by and take a look at some of your work?
Interested in the flooring interior and also flooring exterior...

Re: New boat and bunch of new mods
Curious, how much weight did this add to the boat? We usually take 4-6 out and with ballast, etc... wondering?
Re: New boat and bunch of new mods
Thanks. I have done a lot of changes since the pics, inside is carpet now. The deck is heavy maybe 75lbs? I have a lot of weight everywhere in the boat...We have summers off in live on it. I see you use yours for charter sails. I hate to admit it but IMO the X is not a great boat for taking out a group. I moved the pedestal back a foot, cut off the old captain seat bottom, and mounted a seat on top where the rear seat used to be. With the deck it adds a good amount of useable cockpit space. You may be able to add similar seats to the rear quarters for space. My neighbor just picked up a hunter 240 and its cockpit seems laid out a bit better for daysailing.

I keep the boat in the water year round, you are welcome to come by, send me a Pm, we are on it almost everyday.

Re: New boat and bunch of new mods
Do you have some pic of moving the pedestal back? What about the hole for the cables? More info please
Re: New boat and bunch of new mods
I have two older pics in my photobucket from when I moved it. In this shiny cleanDo you have some pic of moving the pedestal back? What about the hole for the cables? More info please

I did not change the cable routing, the pedestal is just pushed back tight against the original cable passage through the deck. The old mount holes were filled and an aluminum box tube (ordered online) bolted to the deck to raise the pedestal. Along with a larger wheel its now comfortable when standing without having to lean down. While at it took the throttle box apart and mounted it inside and atop the pedestal so you don't have to reach down while docking. The new seat is about standing height to see easily over the top, or as a leaning post if your short.
This pic was as I finished, the 12 gallon tanks have to go in before putting the pedestal back on...learned that the hard way

Re: New boat and bunch of new mods
Thanks for the info.
I copied your deck mod but removed it and made just a rear deck the same height of the cockpit floor. Moving the pedestal back will solve a few problems so I think ill give it a shot.

Wow! I am amazed at your skill, resourcefulness and determination. Until reading your mod I never realized how much I lean down while motoring, especially while navigating through a marina. What size wheel did you add and can you let me know where you purchased it?
As far as mods, there are some guys on here that are gifted craftsmen. IMHO you are among them.

Re: New boat and bunch of new mods
awesome mods, seapup. fine workmanship!!
jay, great to see another commercial operator with the macs.
we have an operation here operating in a marine park- taking 5 to 7 day trips, with 2 (max 3) guests and 1 guide.
i think they are well suited to the application, just wish they had a shower!!, seriously considering with the next
, to move the dinnette to where the head area is, and move the head back to where the
is and build in a shower.
big job, but do-able
cheers
