Re: Any news on the Tattoo 22?
Hey Matt - Rose and I will head down your way in November for sure - We will put in at pepper park I'm thinking the 10th and 11th maybe
That should relive any "MAC Nostalgia" you've been having and get you back on the right track. 30 minutes in a tiny 26 should increase your appreciation for the Benny real fast.

Tattoo reports they pulled the first 22 deck from the molds three days ago, LINK. Two days left to put the whole boat together... after all, the website says the 22 will be available in 2014. What a way to ring in the New Year!

From the looks of the of the first pull from the deck mold, the 22 will have under-cockpit access via cockpit bench hatches. I wonder what other nifty design features await reveal?!!

Kindof looks small. I'd like to see a 26-28' version of this.

I agree Russ, a 26 or 28 in this model would be a home run. If they are indeed going to stop current production on the 26 because of tooling problems, bring back a new and improved model, i have no interest in downsizing to the 22.

It's got a very interesting look. More like a power boat. I'd like to see a mast on the thing....and actually sailing.
Still seems very very small. I guess for a trailer sailor it's good. Not the way we use our boat for pseudo cruising. I bet it's VERY lightweight.

Re: Any news on the Tattoo 22?
I may be coming around to BOATs way of thinking on this matter. As my kids hit their growth spurts, the Mac suddenly became too small. With two people or little kids it works, but once my two teenagers sprouted up, it made our camping and sleep aboards a lot more problematic.
I'm now of the opinion that any boat under 30' is only suitable for a couple, and given that, 22 feet is likely more than enough. There's no amount of headroom that will work for my 6'5" frame on a 26 footer, so I'm used to just slouching.
The style update is fantastic. I really hope they price it at a realistic $40K and sell it with the appropriate outboard so they can build a sustainable business.

Re: Any news on the Tattoo 22?
Hmm, maybe the first time I don't quite agree with Mastreb. Not to say that he's not right, just that the analysis doesn't fit my personal experience. I hope I am wrong but I personally suspect that the 22 is too small to be the runaway success that the Mac26 was.
There have been lots of comments on this forum about making a bigger Mac, but rarely a smaller one.
Why did I buy the Mac? The Hunter 240 was too small, the Oday 222 was WAY to small, and Catalina's 22 had barely more headroom than my Siren 17. The Catalina 250 also had no headroom and no closed head. Even if the Mac didn't have the big motor, the headroom of the Mac sold itself. Without shoes I am under 6' tall and can actually stand up in the right place in the boat. And I can load it up with lots of people in the cockpit.
If I was boatless and truckless right now, had $40,000 to spare, and the Tattoo 22 was available for purchase, I would still go out and buy a good 2002 Mac26X (or maybe an M, if an X wasn't available
). And a nice 2010 Ford F-150 or something like that. And still have $$$ in my pocket to trick out the boat a bit.

I like the 26 but for my purposes and wallet it is too big. I hope the 22 will be cheaper than the 26 not more! I want a M19 because it will fit in my garage for winter and dockage is by the foot here. And then trade up to the 22 when there is a used market.

Re: Any news on the Tattoo 22?
Yea, these days it's generally the admiral and myself. We are always saying, this boat (26M) is as small as we can stand. And this boat is big for its size. There is no way we'd fit in a 22 foot boat. It is probably MUCH easier to launch and tow. But for a long weekend on the boat, I can't see it.Starscream wrote:Why did I buy the Mac? I agree, and i like it! I am looking forward to how it finishes out.I'm now of the opinion that any boat under 30' is only suitable for a couple, and given that, 22 feet is likely more than enough. The front windows remind me a bit of earlier small multihulls where they were also trying to squeeze big space in a small package.

Re: Any news on the Tattoo 22?
What is the boat made of? Is it a fiberglass boat or epoxy?
I wonder how many people in their 30's bought a MAC26? Any statistics on the age group (average age of a MAC purchaser?)
Is the 30 to 40 range the average purchase group? Or is it 40 to 50? I think there are some demographics that need to be considered when trying to mass market. Those of us on this site are a very small group of a certain type who like to tinker. Remember, the major reason this site exists is because of MODS. Those of us who MOD. You think the majority of people who buy the Beneteau Oceanis 38 are into MODS? Also for a boat to go into mass appeal and saturate a market like the 26 it needs to be considered almost disposable. Something you can buy like a big toy, (think 80 inch HD TV and Hummer; stuff you don't need but want to have just "to have".)
Go on the Beneteau website and look at all the pictures of the models on the boats with their cardigans tied around their necks in their Izod LaCoste V neck shirts. Just look at those models and guess the age of them and you will see what multi-million dollar marketing and Madison Avenue advertizing agency expertise has to say about the average age of the international boat buyer, (remember, Rogers kids are experts at the INTERNATIONAL boat market - where do you think they are looking, (here in the U.S. at our aging and deteriorating standard of living?), I think not.
Type "Russian millionaires" into GOOGLE IMAGES and just take a look at the future international boat buyer market.
After a great day of sailing yesterday off the coast of Oceanside we came back into the harbor and pulled up to the guest dock at the Oceanside Broiler for a nice meal and a guy named Nick who is always at his MACx boat every weekend ran over to help us tie off. Nick has had his boat for 17 years and I figure he is about 58 years old. He has never done a mod to his boat. I met a guy from Arizona about three months ago with a MAC19 and he has never done a mod either.

A Russian millionaire is not going to buy a 22 foot sailboat. It's all about impressing the neighbors over there.
