Year round use in New England... saltwater, road salt, slush, mud,... Usually lube the locks with WD40 or other, but too much corrosion build up inside this last time

This one especially requires periodic maintenance. When we took our old truck in for service and came out with a new one, the service dept had to cut off this lock so I could I could keep my hitch mount! Under the rubber cap, the key wouldn't even go into the lock!
Good point. I keep that rubber flap covered. I also don't leave the hitch on the truck, I take it all off and bring it inside.

I was able to find an inexpensive covered lock lock from Master. Works well so far - about 4 years now with the boat left on the water most of the time.

In my experience, “a lock only keeps and honest man honest”.
If someone wants to get in, they will. I just try to make our boat look harder to get into that the boat beside us, so they go next door instead. :o

Here is what we use - with a few shots of WD40 or winch grease in the spring and fall (along with everything else that moves).

the correct spelling is "Anchor las" made in Sweden nice quality.

Here's that lock I have on my boat. Unless you upgrade the hasp I feel it's a good size. Not too bulky. The tumblers will slow down even a professional.
That said, a file will make short work of the soft SS stamped hasp and the strap eye the lock bail fits into.

Actually the wire tie makes more sense to me. Discourages curios people, yet allows thieves easy access without the need to bust my hatch/hasp.

If they really want to steal my junk, I wish they would do so without doing much damage. That's what insurance is for.

Russ, that had been my theory for quite some time. 'till I found a homeless person living in it.

Okay, sure, it was my brother-in-law, but still.
