Just to throw it out, I love my new Yamaha 70hp.

It pushes my barge up to 27mph* WOT (Typically @24-25) with ballast out and @19-21 with ballast in.

It absolutely sips fuel too.

*One time achievement As measured on Garmin GPS with 1 person, light winds and flat ICW

There is nothing quite like that first time you push the throttle down and feel the boat really come alive and jump up on plane .i believe my etec is better on fuel at hull speed than my little motor was .not to mention docking control and ability to back down .

Yes you can use the same holes. Our motor actually sits about 3/4" above the transom for a proper height.

I would also at least use the transom mounting plate on the inside http://www.thmarine.com/products/Outboa ... port-Plate and large thick fender washers on the bottom inside.

My 3/8" aluminum outside Billy plate is probably overkill.

Also NEED transom wedges http://www.ebasicpower.com/search2/show ... nsom+wedge

These links are examples and not necessarily the best price.

I run a 4 blade Solas prop with 2" pitch removed. Max speed with two, full fuel, empty boat and mast down; 31 MPH @ 6250 RPM.

Before our upgraded to our 90, we motored from Ocracoke NC to Oriental NC for about 45 mi with our BF50. Lots of waves and a head wind so we left the ballast in making 12.5 MPH WOT. Billy flew by us on plane with his Suzuki 140 probably running a conservative 22 MPH. We arrive at the dock and compared gas usage. He used less gas than we did.

Can I use such a transom wedge? or it won't be strong enough?? http://www.bainbridgemarine.com/Item.as ... No=Q002146

Will be interesting to see what gives the best results & fuel consumption, because u really cannot believe the stats from the marine eng. companies, they r usually adjusted too make them look better than everyone !! advertising hype & B/S to a certain degree , so trail & error will tell the truth for the best results   of coarse that will vary greatly for lightly loaded day/wk-end sailors & heavily laden cruisers
keep up the experiments :) always nice to see the diff between avert. hype & reality
