Where to mount battery charger on an M

Post by tbowers »

Have a Promariner pronautic 1230p. Have 2 batteries parralleled in the batt compartment at base of ladder. Any suggestions on a good place to mount the charger? Thanks.

Mine is mounted inside the starboard dinette seat. On the aft wall it's a short reach to the center where the batteries are.

I mounted mine under the dinette table, about 12 inches off the floor. To keep feet and wet things off and guarantee air movement, I installed three simple metal towel bars in front. This location is dry and close to the batteries.

I do not have room inside the aft dinette seat due to the fresh water tank located there.

My Guest dual battery charger is mounted under the starboard seat as well. The transformer for the fridge/freezer, when it's running off shore power, is also there, and there are no issues with excessive heat buildup. It is a bit warmer in there when it's all closed up (seat in place) with everything running, but not alarmingly so. For an out-of-the-way pass-through for wires (for the fridge) I used a hole saw to make a hole in the aft facing partition of the compartment, as close to the hull as possible. But it is a large compartment that is continuous with the seat across from it, and the underneath along the battery compartment, so it is part of a pretty large volume of air.

I got my Promariner ProSport 20 mounted on the wall of the battery area under the ladder. This way the cables to the batteries are easily routed.

Same here under the seat. And a note that most if not all marine grade chargers are water proof, I know my Pro-Mariner is.

The Pronautic is not WP. Don't really need that on our boats I believe. Anyone mount it where the can see it? In the cabin?

My charger is installed inside the rear dinette seat on the port sidewall it is spaced off the wall with 1/2" spacers to allow for air to circulate between the wall & the back of the charger which gets quite warm from time to time depending on the load it is handling also there is a passive vent on the opposite side of the wall to allow for airflow & another passive vent on the front wall of the same seat to allow for air exchange there ,hope this helps u out

I was thinking of mounting my Guest dual battery charger on top of the battery cover under the ladder. I like that I can see it’s status at a glance and that’s where it been laying since I got the boat (time to make it permanent.) I was also thinking of flush mounting an A-B switch to the front of the cover, that way all the cables to the batteries are easily routed.

Mine is mounted starboard side, just above where you crawl in to the rear berth. The PO installed it there. Not sure I like the location but it's easy to see the status at a glance.

Is you battery charger waterproof? I could not mount in that area since mine is not.

Under seat like all the others - and it is a fully encapsulated water proof transformer. Completly submersible.
