TillerClutch Install on 26D

Post by vkmaynard »

Our sailing neighbor invented the TillerClutch which is patented and sold world wide.

I installed one on a freinds' "new" 1988 26D.

Great product. Worth the small investment.

Check Defender for pricing.

Simple clever device. If I had a tiller, I'd buy one.

I bought one from Rudder Craft and am going to install it on my 26D.

Thanks for the info!

Look good but not a big enough improvement over the Tiller Tamer I already have.

The big difference is there is no drag on the tiller.

Yes probably better than a Tiller Tamer, but not a big enough improvment to replace one.

It's a good discussion, I also have the tamer and find that a little tension at all times is very useful. Especially when racing single-handed. Leaving the helm to adjust other controls works very fine with some tension. I saw the clutch demo at Havasu and it is impressive however my 2nd opinion is the tamer works for me.

I just use a line tied from one side to the other with a few wraps around the tiller. I keep the wraps a little loose most of the time then slide them forward to tighten them up. Simple and basically free.

Hi, I have been looking to replace my tamer with one as well and would like to know how it worked out for you.

Hello, I have a MG26D, and bought a tiller clutch to install. But I can't seem to get access to the back side of the cleats to install where you did. Are those just screws with no backing? Thanks for any information. Regards, Michael Johnson
