Removing 50 hp restrictor plate makes a 60 hp?

Apparently the EFI models have the same restrictor and others have done this with success.

I personally think the effort is next to nothing ....Keeps me busy too

Give it a try, if your rpm at wot with current prop increases from 300-400 rpm youll know if it worked..........

Yup, got increase of 400 rpm WOT (from 4,400 to 4,800) & about 10% increase in speed (11 to 12.1 knots)
But did not get 20% increase overall: 50 hp + 10 hp = 60 hp (so suspect other changes needed)

20% increase in HP with a 10% increase in performance is good and probably corect. The faster you go the more HP you need for every MPH.

which brands of outboard would removing the restrictor plate apply to? I have a 2005 Suzuki. thanks.

I think the Suzuki powerhead is made by the same factory as the Mercury..but its been a while since I kept up on that.

I agree, actually the Merc. 50 bigfoot goes only 1.5 mph slower than the 60 hp.
I get 18mph on my newer 50hp bigfoot with empty ballast and heavy loaded with 3 batteries and full 12 gals fuel,13 gals water and lots of other stuff including 3 anchors with chain and rode, 450 lbs persons.
Many have gone with the 90hp Suzuki and find it works well with both the X and M but Macgregor specs says 50 hp max for the X and 60 HP for the M and Insurance companies may have a issue if you exceed that .
In a accident they can claim you are overpowered for your boat.
They will win!

Removing a restrictor plate is "Free Speed" (except for the additional fuel burn). I have spent Days tuning rigging and faring in my hull just to get maybe 1/4 knot.
