26M trailer brakes

Post by powersailor »

I need to replace the disk pads and possibly the calipers. I think they are UFP make and model DB 35. Can anyone verify that or tell me the correct data?

That's what my info says (2013 M). Says parts are available from auto parts store. Interchanges with 1997-2000 Kia Sephia. Warning says to get ORGANIC pads only. Metallic pads will rust and goof up the rotor. By the way, UFP is Unique Functional Products... 760-744-1616 or www.ufpnet.com. 135 Sunshine Lane, San Marcos, CA 92069

There were 2 different calipers used over the years. Had 2 trailers, each had different calipers.

get the pads out and take a pic and post it.. could be db35 or db42 My 04 trailer had db35. my 05 trailer has db42. They are not interchangable

pacifictrailers.com has the parts, as well as waymires.com is a great source with great support.

Pacific Trailer website states:
"If you are replacing your existing DB-42 Brake System (calipers and rotors) UFP recommends the newer DB-35 system as a direct replacement."

The DB-35 has an all aluminum caliper version for those of us that launch in salt water.

Okay, I have to change my brakes too. Are they the front or rear brakes of the Kia Sephia?

Looks like the front - mine are still in good shape, just posted info above from my trailer literature and "front" based on the calipers on Autozones website. Rear calipers on the Sephia seem to have e-brake mixed in. Take this with a grain of salt - since I haven't actually done the repair. Info appears to be good, though.

While working on the brake system, if you launch in salt water, I recommend additionally checking the brake line in the neck of the tailer. Mine rusted out and failed twice despite religiously rinsing with fresh water after each launch and retrieval.

I had one of these fittings fail when the trailer was new. If like what I had, it is a very small cross section and it failed due to vibration. Replaced with standard hoses from WM.

Now, to figure out why my master cylinder was dry this weekend :x May be time to remove and inspect the system one end to the other.

http://www.tinypic.com Or some other photo hosting program, but tinypic doesn't require an account or any information from you.

Upload and copy the link (of four links it returns) with the ubb code on each end (the img and /img stuff). Just copy and paste the whole link right into the text of your post, leaving a blank line before and after for best readability, and hit the preview button to see how it looks. A large picture will be small in your post, but open to a large(r) version when you click on it.

Click the 'quote' button on this post to see what the format looks like in the raw.
