What a $9000 2006 26M looks like

Post by Globalhobo »

We got our new (kinda beat up) 26M home. In the other post, people said to post pictures and maybe they could give some advice on fixing her up. I couldn't figure out how to post them individually, so, here is a photo-bucket of our not-yet-named and soon-to-be-beautiful 2006 :macm:
PLEASE feel free to give advice as you see things.

One thing for sure - these guys were not afraid to drill holes - they even ran screws up through the deck to mount the car stereo in the salon (good thing they stuck some silicone in the hole :| ).

Step 1: Apply H20

(powerwash...immediate increase in the value)

Looks fine...our X was not full of weird holes, but I got a deal on it because EVERYTHING inside didn't work...replaced the whole interior wiring (and added more mods lol)

Wow! That's some interesting stuff there.

First...some soap, water, bleach and you will be far along to seeing the potential. Maybe even the inside. Take everything out and hose the thing out...then pump the water out.

Probably best to simply rewire everything. Taking stuff apart might be interesting. What is that Sony thing inside the galley? Amplifier? And what what the PO thinking mounting the stereo in that box?
Around the dagger trunk you are missing the trim. That will make things look a lot better.

I bet this will be a fantastic boat with a little work.

Welcome aboard. With some time, sticky chemicals and elbow grease she should be smooth and shiny in no time. What kind of motor?
Where's the pizza? Should be lots with all the money you saved!

Looks like the PO took everything but the kitchen sink and the stereo. A few parts, some FG filler kit(s) and some parts and it'll be good as new

You can get the plugs that the factory used to cover the access holes on the inside from BWY. They're super cheap and will look a lot better then the gum wadded up in the hole.

I'd spend some time on the BWY site (http://bwyachts.com/) looking at everything and making a list of stuff you are missing or want to add. Their site is a little dated and you may have to change some of your browser settings to get it to work, but take your time, follow the instructions and you should be able to get it. If not, ask questions here. You'll find there are a bunch of us who will be happy to help 8)

This is troubling. Looks like a depth transducer was on here. Holes remain. If they go through the hull, not good.

PO banged it up pretty good. Clean it first. That will give you encouragement. Get some good chemicals to clean that junk off. Probably gonna need to learn how to patch gelcoat. Easy to do.

Also, with all the harsh looking corrosion on metal parts in your photos, I would seriously check the trailer. Specifically the inside of the steel tubes. They rust from the inside out.

Overall, it's a lot of boat for the money. Hopefully the motor is in good shape. Needs cleaning. Needs the front of the galley re-installed. Lots of holes to fill. Can't wait to see it once you clean it up.

I cleaned my boat with deck cleaning solution (basically chlorhydric acid). It cleans out everything including rust spots. Of course wear protective clothing and gloves (it won't hurt your hands if you work for 5 min , but is kind of painful for longer time - learnt the old fashion way).

on another forum a guy was saying not to use a power washer because it creates those little holes that you see in the non skid. But I REALLY want to use one. Have any of you heard this before?

thanks russ for all your input! yeah, that sonything is a big amplifier! .... and all those holes all over the cabin were for speakers. I don't think they intended to use it as a boat I think it was supposed to be a nightclub. the amplifier is screwed all the way through the galley and right into side of the boat so the galley will not slide. once we take it off we'll figure out how long the screws were and if it went into the hull.

we are not too worried about the wiring- we are both electricians and probably would have ended up gutting it all out anyway even if it was ok just to make it the way we wanted.

Maybe we can mount a new transducer in it's place... ?

The trailer is trashed. It's so rusty. We tried to price out a new one but boat trailers are a hot commodity in the islands and shipping one over is cost prohibitive. Once we get the boat in the water we'll put her in a slip and start working on the trailer. :P

I'll post pictures as we go... it's going to be a long process.

Does anyone have any input on the daggerboard trunk? I posted some pictures of the top deck entry. It looks all cracked. What does it look like on a well cared for boat?

RE: Powerwashing. I do it all the time. Our marina has a big gas powered deal that we use when hauling it out and de-sliming it.
Honestly, powerwashing doesn't do everything. Still takes physical contact with the fiberglass to get some stuff out. I hate using the chemicals, but they work...and work well to get even rust stains out. Just be careful of that acid based stuff. Once you get the boat cleaned up, psychologically you will have more energy to tackle the other projects. None of which are impossible.

The PO removed the wooden trim piece that goes around this and seals up that space. Probably broke it and didn't bother reinstalling it. Once you make a new one, this will look much better.

This doesn't bother me. Looks like typical stuff you'd expect.

Yea, the PO wasn't afraid to drill holes. LOL at night club. Why on earth do you mount an amp inside the galley? So many other places you could mount it. I guess that hole in the galley was some kind of amp control module.

What's this gauge on top of the ped?
