It goes on black. I applied it to the forward hatch first to see if it worked. Then I masked off the raccoon stripes and applied it there. It even hid the scratches. There is a similar Turtle Wax product. I had a hard time choosing between them at Walmart but chose Meguire's since I have had good experiences with their other products. It still looks great after two months in the hot sun.

Again, I don't know how long it will last, but I am ok with re-applying once per year. If your black stripes are in as bad of shape as mine were, then you have nothing to lose.

Hi Mac26Mpaul
Painted my raccoon stripe this spring with Pettiti Easypoxy One-Part Polyurethane Enamel gloss black. Put 3 coats on over 5 days. Once it was fully cured, water sanded with 1500 grit and hand buffed and wax to a smooth finish. Wished I had used the two part, it has a harder finish. We will see how it holds up. My black gel coat was looking little thin so this was an easier fix then applying a several coats black gel coat. Either way would still need wax, but maybe paint would look best if only waxed once a year and still hold a shine longer.

Final update for the season. We intended to put the boat in the warehouse last week however the first snow of the year beat me (9in.). With all the snow melted of the deck tomorrow is the day. I looked over the south facing port side raccoon stripes today. They still shine. They do not have the deep glossy shine after initial application but there is no sign of that chalky flat black oxidation normally associated with traditional wax. I purposely left the beveled area just under one of the starboard window approx. 3/8in below the plexiglass untreated for comparison. Of course this is oxidized chalky black as always. The Newglass2 coated area next to the oxidized area is still a saturated black with a good shine. All total the south facing port side was coated 5 months ago. All the coated white areas still have a deep gloss.

This is a significant improvement over any marine wax I have used under the same conditions for the past 7yrs. I plan to do a soap and water clean, light buff (3M Perfect-It II Ultra Fine Polish Quart 06068) and polish of the existing Newglass2 coated areas over the winter and wipe on 1-2 restore coats (which is what NG2 recommends) for annual maintenance. I tested this a few weeks ago on a small area and it worked very well. I plan to apply NG2 on all the antiskid areas over the winter as well. NG2 claims it does not make the surface slick like wax. I would agree as I don't find the coated areas any slicker than after normal buffing.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! I'll update the winter restore project in the spring.

I often think about just buying a couple of cans of decent black paint and some tape and fixing the fortnightly racoon stripe problem once and for all - and then I chicken out again... Has anyone actualy just painted the dang annoying stripes :?: :!:
When it comes to waxing the raccoon stripes, I threw in the towel a couple of years ago. I painted them. It came out great, and I am happy.
The paint I used is Benjamin Moore impervex latex high gloss enamel (black)

Well it sounds like a few have painted and are happy enough with the results. Sooner or later, I think that's the way I will go!

Inversions - I don't know if its worth a try, I only remember Bob's experience. He imported it, and I believe it made them look lovely, for a month or two, and he was on the New South Wales central coast (that's a cold place to us QLDers  ) I think. Here in QLD we have the highest skin cancer rates in the world, the black stripes are handy because you can cook your breakfast on them (hot enough to fry an egg in full sun!) although they oxidize up a day or two after polishing and oxidized eggs taste like sh-ite

I tried NG2 and my :macm: is in Victoria which is much cooler. However it oxidised very quickly and looked terrible. I found methylated spirits would gradually thin the NG2 coating and get it off. What I have been doing more recently is using Amour-all Protectant which is silicone based and used for dash boards etc. It is not as glossy but easy to put on and brings a reasonable shine to the raccoon stripes

Hi Mac26Mpaul, Berberher Boy and any other Mac owners down under.

I have just ordered a product called Lion Protect Gel Coat Sealer (250 ml)- enough for 9 metre boat, and 1 litre of Pre cleaner from ABS Technolgies in Adelaide. The Cruising Helmsman Mag (Dec 2015, pg 51 - "What's New" guy has tried it and claims it is still looking excellent after 2 years, compared to very poor results from Cut/wax/polish and a premium 2 day? pack Polymerisation treatment over same period. Cost about $100 delivered. This is a clean off/wash off, then apply with cloth/polish off, nano tech product.

Here's hoping.

Cheers guys n gals, Stuart

Yes, please keep the board up on your success. :)

Do you know if there is a distributor here in the US?

Lion Protect is a Danish company - see www.lionprotect.eu

Suggest emailing them directly for a US agent.

Just a little heads up though - I now see that the positive review of this product in the magazine was provided by the guy at ABS Marine and not an independant assessment! No reason to doubt him I guess, but we'll see ........

Further Heads up. I just went to the Danish site and downloaded the specs and warnings on the product.

It indicates that there can be allergies from product substances which can give an allergic reaction on contact with skin. It may take 12-72 hours as the substance penetrates the skin and reacts with the proteins in the outer skin. The body's immune system sees the chemically changed protein as a foreign body and will try to destroy it.

Of course all products have some dangers but reading the cautionary stuff (which people like myself often bypass) would seem to be important and proper precautions followed in using the stuff.

I have been using Rejex for years now and am happy with the performance.

http://www.rejex.com

I do a light polish and reapply every year.

Just saw this when I was looking up the site.

"RejeX was recently named to Do It Yourself Boat Owner magazine's "10 Best Boat Care Products – Ever" list"

If Rejex is water based then it may be a similar water bourne acrylic polymer like NG2. Sounds very similar.
